I have an Amana BRD18V1 or V2, bottom freezer. About every two weeks it leaks water on the floor on the right hand side and i have to defrost the bottom part to get about an inch of ice out. I trust something is clogged but not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions?

I assume you mean water leaking on floor of bottom freezer? There should be a small hole in floor in back to drain defrosted water down to pan under unit. This line might be clogged with food or frozen water. Carefully pour some hot/boiling water down tube to clear. You should see it empty into pan under unit where fan evaporates it.

Water leaking onto floor coming from under refrigerator

Hello,

Their are a couple things causing that leak

1) the water valve(s) for the icemaker/door dispenser are leaking. Pull the refrif. out, remove service panel from the rear and inspect the valve(s) for leakage. Sometimes their is just one valve on certain models their is two.

2) the drain for the auto. defrost cycle in the bottom of the freezer back wall is blocked so the defrost water is running out of the freezer door at the bottom

Good luck,i hope i have able to help you stop the leak,

We have water leaking slowly from beneath the water/ice dispenser unit in our Amana side by side. It is 2 1/2 years old and this is a new problem.

Hello,

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

Amana side by side refrigerator dumps a large puddle of water in front every month or so. Nothing in the owner's manual to help trouble shoot this problem. Model is SS25TE

Hi, I am Dennis. The unit leaks water from the vent in the bottom center of the freezer side on to the floor of the freezer and sometimes out of the freezer door to the kitchen floor. Not muck of a leak....

Abesolutely a bad defrost heater. it is too weak to defrost the ice completely, therefore it falls off the coils and freezes on the drain tray. If you dont want to replace the heater you can also just install a drain tube heater that wires into the evaperator fan, it will run constantly as the fan does to keep water from freezing in the tube or tray. All parts can be purchased at http://www.reliableparts.com/ using your model number.

Ice keeps forming on the bottom of the freezer - like a leak on the back side flows into the bottom toward the door.

When a refrigerator leaks water like yours, it is common for the problem to be nothing more than a clogged defrost drain. When the unit defrosts itself, the frost melt water drips into a pan underneath the evaporator in the freezer, and goes through a tube from there to the bottom outside of the unit. Since the water cant go down this drain, it backs up on the freezer floor, then eventually the kitchen floor.

Amana bottom freezer: water leaking & ice build-up

There should be some kind of drain at bottom of freezer compartment to collect and run off any condensate that collects during defrost cycle.. Clean out the drain and snake out the line that leads from it. Right now the liquid is collecting where it should not and it will leak out the gasket when you have enough of it.

Bottom freezer

It may be that the door was completely closed at some time this will cause this fault, or you have a defrost sensor fault. Regards Advisor

Freezer leaks water!

luvbug, Your refrigerator is "frost free" which means it is automatically defrosts after the compressor runs 8 to 12 hours. The defrost cycle lasts approximately 30 minutes. If it is in normal condition, defrosted water goes through the drain into the drip pan under the refrigerator and then evaporates. The problem you are having is one of the most common - the drain line is clogged up. To fix it you have to remove the freezer drawer, defrost and clean the drain. The drawer removal procedure described in the refrigerator manual book. If you do not have one you can find it there: http://www.amana.com/amana/jsp/manual.do You will see the drain hole on the freezer floor by the rear panel. To defrost it you can use your hair dryer. To make sure it is open, run a cup of very hot water through the drain. Reinstall the freezer drawer and enjoy it! Gendos....post it back
