Working on an HP Compaq nc6400. It won't keep any BIOS settings. RTC/CMOS battery AND the system board have been replaced, but after power cycling, it reverts to default values, including date and time, as if no CMOS battery is present. The BIOS is the most recent for the nc6400, F.0B. Anyone have any ideas?
Age happens
RTC cmos battery died, as all do.
the time if day and date act odd (rct , real time clock)
the BIOS configs are lost. (CMOS ram 1/2 of RTC ram)
3vdc, a meter confirms its ok
seen new battery bad. (old stock)
then look at all the jumpers J2 ?
cmos clear. etc.
same mobo model ,exactly there are many mobo's used by HP.
no power, cord
Move the jumper J2 from pins 1-2 (Normal) to pins 2-3 (Clear CMOS). Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5 to 10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2.
normal is left

SOURCE: I have this problem with
Remove accumulator too. Firstly accu then RTC battery and before this power supply. You need to put your laptop to no power for about 5-10 min
SOURCE: date keeps reverting to 10/08 and clock won't keep time
i donno much........ may be ur comp inbuilt[battery used 4 time setting] battery would hav run out....... i think so
SOURCE: hp compaq nx8220 - Administrator password cannot be reset
If this issue started with a motherboard error that appeared to be a faulty CMOS battery and then it started incorrectly detecting your memory and now is asking for a password it could be a faulty motherboard. If you are 110% you or anyone else has set a password on that laptop then I would say your motherboard needs to be replaced. It is a difficult process to reset admin passwords on most laptops due to a security chip that will prevent the trick of removing the battery from working. In all honestly if no one has set a password and the motherboard THINKS someone has then even if you reset the password you will still have issues. There is a small chance your CPU or RAM could be defective. But, again going back to it saying you have a password set that was never set. It just yells faulty motherboard unless someone has set a password without you knowing.

the simple thing is that are the both system compartible?so if they are not just compartible go to the local pc outlet in your area and get a compartible one better you go with the faulty screen so it could be easily verify.
