I hooked up my water line and the water is not dispensing through the door. The water is running through to the connection in the back of the refrigerator but does not seem to be making the full run into the icemaker and the door.

Do you hear a slight buzzing when you try to get water?? If yes, you may have a frozen water line inside the freezer door. GE had some problems with those models. They offer a heater kit that has to be installed in the dispenser area of the freezer door. Once installed, in about a day the water line should be defrosted enough to dispense water again. If you don't hear that buzzing sound when trying to get water, you could have a bad inlet valve which is at the lower back of the refrigerator where your house water line hook to the refrigerator.
Where you hook the house water line is to the water inlet valve which is a one in two out solonoid controlled valve. One side goes to the water dispenser in the door and the other hooks to the ice maker connection.
So I suspect the long water line you are talking about has had the lines switched at the valve and needs reversed. The long line probably goes up the back of the unit and connects to the ice maker. The one for the water dispenser should hook to the water chiller resevoir and then to the water dispenser.
dissconnect water line coupling behind lower kick plate under door. push water dispenser; and sell if water flows out line. keep a towel handy. it there is water; then, the problem is in the door itself. of course, make sure the water solenioids are working.
Yes, With a water dispenser or even an ice maker you need to connect to a cold water pipe. The connection is a simple "saddle valve" which clamps over your water line and then you screw a sharp piercing point into the water line. After peircing the water line you back the point back out to let the water flow. A 1/4" tubing either plastic or copper will go from the valve to the back of the refrigerator. The tubing hooks to the back of the refrigerator with a simple slip or compression fitting.
You can run the tubing for long distances if you need to but usually in a kitchen area it is not too far to find a water pipe.
So go ahead and buy that fridge that you want, knowing that the hookup will be a simple easy, procedure!!
Order and install a WR49X10173 water tube heater. It may take 24 hours to then thaw, but it has worked for me on numerous refrigerators. Cost for the part will run about $50.
recheck the electical connection at upper frz door hindge sometime a wire could be pushed out but check to see that the control lock was not set by accident
I had the same problem, in reading a bunch of other similiar issues with various models, the best thing I found was that the water line inside the freezer door is frozen. I had to isolate this portion of my water line from the wall all the way through the frigde. It you unplug, take out screws from he back cardboard cover so you can follow the waterline through the fridge. The valves are pretty easy to take apart/put together. To take apart a valve, just press down on the ring around the valve the pull the connecting apart. To put back together, push the same ring down, then push the connection back together. To check the water flow, plug the fridge back in and have some one push the water dispenser as you check each valve. I suspect the problem is in the freezer door, so you should just check the valve under the bottom left side of the freezer door. From here to the dispenser the water line goes through the door. I used a blow dryer to heat up the inside of the freezer door just behind and below the dispenser unit for about 5 minutes. Try and run the water again and it should work. Good luck
At the back bottom of the fridge there will be a coil solenoid. If your appliance is ice make ready this will be there, these coils have a bracket that has fitting for a water connection. Get a 1/4 tube with a ferrell and nut. slide them on the tube and connect to the fitting.
The water valve is on the back of the refrigerator. The water line connects directly to that valve. If there is no line available then you will need to run one from a cold water line in the plumbing using a drill type (1/4") saddle valve on that pipe. Hope this helps.
