SOURCE: front load washer

Hitchhiker, you don't have to remove the front of the washer. The original boot was glued in areas around the door. They came out with a new design because of water leakage on the bottom. The new kit, part number 5303937187 comes with a spring that holds it on to the panel. You can do one or two things, if you don't have the leaking problem, glue the boot back on. Or you can order the new kit, it comes with instructions and replace the whole boot. Check it out, it might be covered under service flash #26-758BR. In any event this job can be done by leaning the washer back against the wall to make room between the tub and front panel. You are going to need an assist, it's better with 2 people. Catriver...post back.

SOURCE: bearing on front load washing machine needs replacing (Frigidaire

You will need to replace the tub rear shell/bearing assembly (part # 131525500).
To do this, practically the whole machine will need to come apart.
To remove the drive pulley, remove rear cabinet panel. Remove the pulley screw and pull back on the pulley (you may need to giggle it as you pull to remove it).
For the shock pins, grab the open end with a pair of vise-grips. On the "pointy" side of the pin press the tab in with your finger (if you can't push the tab in slide a 9/16" socket onto it) and pull the pin out with the vise-grips (twist back and forth slightly as you pull).

A qualified tech could replace the rear shell/bearing in about 1.5 - 2 hrs. I can certainly give you more help if you need it, let me know.
Good luck!

The symptoms that you describe are caused by bearing failure. The water seal in the wash tub has failed, allowing water to leak into the bearing causing the bearings to rust. As the bearings start to rust, they will not roll properly and start to make a rumbling sound. The sound get louder the faster the bearing turns.
It a major job to repair since the washer has to be taken apart and the wash drum needs to be removed to replace the seal and bearings. Get a few estimates before deciding whether the washer is worth the cost to repair or replace. Sorry.

My washer leaves oil spots on my clothes

The only place where oil can enter the wash would be if the bearing seals have failed. It's a major repair, and the entire machine has to be taken apart to replace the bearing and seal.

I see a crack in the hose inside my LG front loading Washer.  Can I remove the front panel to repair the hose which is located near the front?

Yes, you can remove it, but it takes a lot of work to remove. You have to remove the top, the console and control panels, and the door boot. The boot is somewhat simple to remove, but pretty difficult (and on some models, impossible without special tools) to get back on. Its a pretty tough job to do. Try this, remove the top of the unit (a couple of screws in the back) and see if you can repair from above, if its below, try to reach from access hole at the bottom.

Removing the bearings from my direct drive washing machine

If you're talking about the rear drum support bearing, they are usually not removable. They are molded into the plastic tub shell. When the bearings go bad you generally have to replace the entire back shell of the wash tub.
