Despite being a frost free freezer, it has now started to ice up in the bottom of the freezer compartment. Starting to need a de-frost every couple of months, and the bottom freezer draw is getting stuck in all the ice and becoming unusable.
Also occasionally find some water on the floor under the freezer in the morning when I come down.
Amana Refrigerator Freezer / bottom drawer freezer Ice forming on the back part - ice cube maker is not working. Still have water in frig - Does not keep ice cream frozen.
I have the same problem, just started about 6 months ago. An ice sheet builds up on bottom of freezer. I keep taking it out and it keep coming back....now I notice small water spots on floor. We do not know what is causing this.I have the same problem, just started about 6 months ago. An ice sheet builds up on bottom of freezer. I've the same problem. Water on the floor occationly. I can hear the de-icing device working and right after melting water in the bottom of the freezer. I think the tube or valve in the back is pluged up, but I don't know how to get to it.I've the same problem. Water on the floor occationly. I have the same problem and am manually defrosting right now to try and remove all of the ice that is packed and stuck in on the bottom tray in the freezer. I hope that this works. My question is - is there a catch pan on the bottom somewhere - where will all of this water go? I think that the reason that this may have happened is because I had the bottom shelf to jammed and the lower vent of the freezer was blocked not allowing good air flow. possibly the drain is plugged or the drain line, which runs down from freezer on back of unit, to the drip pan underneath. U can blow it out with compressed air
if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting.causes:
1.low refrigerant
2.no fan
3.too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals
4.the condensate drain tube is clogged
if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s).
no air, no fan.Replace
if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off.but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional.
defrost solutions:
unplug the fridge.remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up.use a hair dryer to melt the ice.do not get too close.you will see a drain under the evaporator coil.make sure it is not blocked.the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor.once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up.plug the fridge in and turn it on.If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.
If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow. You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model may also be termination switch inline with element
Switch off fridge. Put a pedistal fan in front blowing into the cabinet and leave until all ice has defrosted. Locate the drain hole in the back of the freezer compartment, try to defrost ice which blockes up about the first inch or two of this pipe. If water does not run through you need to force it through with a turkey baster. This should sort your problem. ratemeplease
My Bosch Frost Free Fridge Freezer did the same thing - Ice forming in the bottom of the freezer area after a few days.
It was caused by a blocked drain pipe - When the freezer does the de-frosting cycle, the melted ice drips into a tray and tehn runs into a dish on top of teh compressor, through a pipe.
If this pipe gets blocked, the de frosted ice overflows from the tray and overflows into the bottom of the freezer and then re-freezes !
To fix, pull the freezer away form the wall, locate the pipe that runs to the dish on top of the compressor and blow through it - This should clear it. Alternatively, from inside the freezer compartment, pull off the cover at the back, but the clips holding it on will probably break off, as mine did ! You can sort of push the cover back on and re-fit the food draws.
don't know this appliance but for guidence:
some appliances have the evaporator in a compartment at the top of the freezer and the drain comes out of the back and runs externally to the drip tray. there should be a grill in the compartment so just peer into it and see if there is ice build up.
wherabouts is the freezer ice forming?
Remove the four screws retaining the ducting at the back of the freezer compartment. Top at the top, two at the bottom
Carefully pull the ducting out - it's located in the guide slots for the freezer drawers, and should pull out without too much drama.
This exposes the air circulating fan, and the evaporator coil (the bit that gets chilled).
In my case, despite a defrost of the frost-free section, the evaporator section was one massive chunk of ice. If you have similar, carefully defrost this, and check the drain hole at the bottom of the cavity.
Try contacting the hotline again and ask them if the freezer has a frost sensor on it. If it does, the sensor is not kicking the thermostat to allow for the unit to defrost.
I don't know the particulars of your brand, but if it is frosting up Most fridges will have a bad heater element, a bad defrost timer (or controller if it is electronic) or most likely a bad defrost limit switch. This is a switch mounted on the inlet line of the evaporator with a clip and senses when the evaporater is defrosted so that it does not get too hot and start melting parts. This switch should have zero ohms of resistance when cold (below 40ish) and be completely open when above 40 or so. The easiest way to test it is take the wall covering the evaporater off and locate the plugs for the swiths. Test continuity through it. If it is sitting in ice, it should have no resistance. If it is open and in ice (infinite resistance) then it's bad.
