I have a Toro Proline walk behind . I believe that its a 1993 or earlier model! The drive system is not wortkijng all that great ! In fact it will barely pull it's self in 2nd gear! I have to push with my feet to get it rolling in 4th, its top gear. Even at that, it will not pull its self up hill! It will hardley pull its self up hill in 1'st or for that matter, up the slightest incline!
It's a hydrostatic powered mower , with drive belts, lever bar for controls, 4 speed with reverse, I'm not sure, but I think it has a 44 inch deck, or possibly a 52' or 54 if they made one that size! It's powered by a 17 h.p. motor that runs great!
Could my problem be in the drive belts! Possibly just worn out, stretched out beyond ajustment! Or is the problem going to stem from inside the transmission, or the hydrostatiic droive ! And if so is there any remendy to repairing the problem! I'm sure that parts wear out in the drive ! But from the symtoms that I mention is there parts that sound like that they have done there tour of duty and just need to be replaced in a basic rebuild or is it more cost effective to replace the drive unit as a whole! Any suggestionsd or answers or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Again! Jack Getting
I suspect the drive belt, not the Hydro. Especially if the drive belt was never replaced. The belts are known to stretch and wear out over time. It's a cheap part.
I have a Toro self propelled 22 inch lawn mower (Model 820) about 2 years old. This season the drive is not functioning as well and I am struggling to push it. Any idea what the problem is?
I have a 1996 toro proline, 14hp, 52" cut commercial mower, self propel stoped working after 5 mins, I replaced the drive belts and bought a new tranny, now after 1 hour of use the machine stops operating.
HELP!
I have one like this and mine has adjustments to account for stretching. I would start there.
