Hooking up existing 15 year old water kine to a new fridge
The existing plastic water line behind the fridge has a ferrule and nut on it. What else do I need to connect this to a new kitchenaid fridge. This water line is 15 years old so I do not think it would be the same size as the one on the fridge. Can you solve this problem

I see that you are trying to hook up and start the ice maker on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB.
To connect Water supply Line to ice Maker inlet valve:
1 Disconnect your refrigerator from the electric power source.
2 Place the end of water supply line into sink or bucket. Turn ON water supply and flush supply line until water is clear. Turn OFF water supply at shutoff valve.
3 Remove plastic cap from water valve inlet and discard cap.
4 If you use copper tubing - Slide brass compression nut, then ferrule (sleeve) onto water supply line. Push water supply line into water valve inlet as far as it will go (1/4 inch/6.4mm). Slide ferrule (sleeve) into valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto valve. Tighten another half turn with a wrench; DO NOT over tighten.
If you use stainless steel tubing - The nut and ferrule are already assembled on the tubing. Slide compression nut onto valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto valve. Tighten another half turn with a wrench; DO NOT over tighten.
5 With steel clamp and screw, secure water supply line (copper tubing only) to rear panel of refrigerator as shown.
6 Coil excess water supply line (copper tubing only) about 2 and 1/2 turns behind refrigerator and arrange coils so they do not vibrate or wear against any other surface.
7 Turn ON the water supply at shutoff valve and tighten any connections that leak.
8 Reconnect your refrigerator to electrical power source.
9 To turn the ice maker on, lower wire signal arm (side mounted) or set the ice maker's ON/Off power switch to the "I" position (rear mounted).
After connecting the water supply, you will need to prime the water supply system.
To Prime The Water Supply System:
1 Begin filling the tank by pressing and holding a drinking glass against the water dispenser paddle.
2 Keep the glass in this position until water comes out of the dispenser. There will be noticeable spurts and sputters as the system pushes air out through the system and dispenser nozzle. This is normal. This may take about 1 and 1/2 minutes.
3 Continue dispensing water for about 3 minutes to flush the system of any air and impurities. Empty the glass as needed.
The water dispenser has a built-in device that shuts off the water flow after 3 minutes of continuous use. To reset this shutoff device, simply release the dispenser paddle. Hope this is helpful.
Find your route to the water line. Drill a hole in the floor behind the refrigerator and thread the copper tubing into the basement. Go to the basement and find the main water line and pull the copper tubing to it.
Step 2 Attach pipe to refrigerator. Go back up to the kitchen and attach the end of the copper tubing to the water pipe of the refrigerator. You can use a nut and ferrule to connect the tube to the fridge. Make sure to leave a little bit of copper tubing coiled behind the fridge so as to not disconnect the tubing when moving the fridge.
Step 3 Turn off the water. With the fridge all hooked up, go back to the basement and turn off the water. Find the cold water pipe and drill a 1/4-inch hole to accommodate the copper tubing.
Step 4 Attach valve to pipe. You need to attach the water valve to the main pipe. This allows you to control the flow of water to the refrigerator. Make sure you have a gasket to seal between the valve and main water pipe.
Step 5 Connect the copper tubing. With the valve connected to the main water pipe, connect the copper tubing using a clamp. This should be everything you need. Turn on the main water and you should be able to get a glass of water, but it will take an hour or two for the ice cubes to freeze.
Hi .. there should be piping connectors at each end of the tubing. I would disconnect those connectors andtake them to the building supply store and get new fittings and a new supply hose. The new hose does not need to be copper,. you do not need to cut the existing fittings off the wall or the fridge, the new fittings, or new hose can connect directly to the old fittings. my tool of choice is a pair of crescent wrenches
Good day, After that much time, be sure the fan motor in the freezer compartment is running, as well as the fan motor on the back bottom behind the cover by the compressor. Either could well have frozen up after 4 years of storage. As well a refrigerant leak could have developed because of the time frame. However, if it is less then 5 years old, the sealed system would still be under factory warranty.
Turn water off from the supply. There should be a valve that the 1/4" water line connects to, if not you will have to shut off the water main. Using a wrench remove the nut from the water line connection (usually a compression fitting. You will need a need compression sleeve with the new line x2, one for the valve and one for the fridge. Next disconnect the line from the back of the fridge. Run the new line the same way the old one was run, for easiness. Make sure you leave enough slack behind the refridgerator to allow it to be pulled out and cleaned behind. Once all connections are tight you can turn the water back on and ensure you don't have any leaks. Hope this helps.
This is because the ferrul ring has been compressed on the pipe and is very tightly secured under the nut. There is a very handy puller available which will pull the nut and ferrul off of copper piping. Without the special tool you are probably going to be faced with cutting it off and starting over again if your project affords that room. If the nut and ferrul appear good can you stay using the existing nut and ferrul? If you have no room to afford cutting and starting fresh,the nut and ferrul can be split or cut off which is somewaht of a chore. Ive got a little dremel cutting wheel that splits them off fairly well but have to bevery painstaking not to damage the pipe with the grinder wheel
Never run plastic tubing through a wall! If copper is already there, then leave it, and solder the pinhole leak back up.
If the leak is outside of the wall, then cut off the tubing that includes the pinhole, and buy a brass ferrule coupling for 1/4 inch copper to copper. Make sure that it includes a brass barrel (it may come with 2, one for each side. If not, they are sold separately as well.). Install the coupling with ferrule into one side of the coupling.
Push the barrel into the plastic tubing, and install with ferrule just like you installed the copper tubing.
Sometimes you can get a plastic ferrule for the plastic line side of the coupling.
