This behavior occurs for several reasons. Some computer and hardware manufacturers provide their own configuration software that replaces the Wireless Zero Configuration service that is provided in Windows. In that case, you must use the software that is provided by the manufacturer to configure your wireless network. If you want to use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard or the View Available Wireless Networks feature to configure your wireless device, see the documentation that came with your computer or with your wireless network card. Use this documentation to determine whether you can use the Wireless Zero Configuration service to configure your wireless network. Sometimes, you cannot use the Windows functionality.

If your computer or your wireless network adapter did not come with its own wireless network software, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click Network Connections.
  3. In Network Connections, click to select your wireless connection, and then click Change settings of this connection.
  4. On the Wireless Networks tab, click to select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box.

To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then clickOK.
  2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
  3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
  4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

I am unable to connect to the internet because of a error with article 871122

Safe Mode is only for troubleshooting and internet may not work, because Windows loads with minimal drivers. Hence hardware will fail to load.

There is a Same Mode with Networking option.

When I try to connect using Wireless Network connection the following error message now appears: "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another programme to manage this...

Your obviously having a network configuration issue. Go into Network icon, set up a network connection, make sure you have Wi-Fi and that your laptop is picking up the signal then manually set up or scan for the wifi access point, your laptop should pick up the access point and a name should appear for that wifi spot. Once that is done then you can rename your access point with your name or HOME whatever you like, its hard to explain through here.

Can't connect to my wireless network via my Inspiron E1705

Use the program that came with your wireless card. Do not let windows do the job. You will find this in your wireless settings. Is it the wireless device that came installed in your computer or an external device? Look at the wireless card and let me know what brand it is. This will help me with your problem. On your laptop you will have to take some screws off of the back to get to the card. Make sure that it is hooked up.

Try to setup home wireless network to share two home computer

Connect the home wireless network router box to the main PC through an ethernet cable with the PC powered off and the home wireless router powered off, then power on the PC & the router. Vista should locate the new wireless network and follow the windows vista network setup procedures. After the wireless network has been detected you then while the second PC's power is shut off you connect dongle adapter to the PC power on and XP will locate the new adapter. You will probably have to enter your networks pin for the connection.

Not pickin up signal

Upgrading the firmware (which forced a software reset) solved a similar problem I had with an SMC router. Have you tried logging into your router via an ethernet cable and doing a software reset? If you try this, be sure you have all the information you need to set up your wireless network again because the reset will wipe out all this information.
