Noisy Fridge! Help please. My refrigerator makes a terrible banging noise whenever the compressor shuts off. It wakes me up. It sounds like the expansion tank is rattling around? My landlord says it can't be fixed. Any better opinions? Thanks!

Have you ever cleaned the coil under the refrigerator? If the coil is very dirty the compressor will run very hot and when it finaly shuts off its banging is a sigh of relief. Pull the bottom panel off and vacuum inside as far as u can reach. They also sell brushes for cleaning them.

My new black glass double door fridge and freezer is so noisy it actually wakes me up.Please help.Les

Les,
The nature of the noise can tell you a lot. Is it a smooth compressor sound that is excessively loud? Is it metallic like a fan blade might make if it is hitting something? A squeal like a failing bearing might make? Is it constant? Intermittent? Has it always been there?
I assume the fridge, other than noisy, operates correctly and normally.
You can add acoustic foam to reduce the noise (Find "Black Hole" acoustic absorbing foam or similar). If doing this, you cannot impede the airflow to the heat ex-changers or the compressor motor, or you could drastically shorten the life of your appliance.
You should also try and divine where exactly the noise is coming from. Lacking a stethoscope, a 1/4 " wooden dowel, placed against various areas on one end, and the other on the little skin flap of your ear, will safely telegraph mechanical vibration to your ear, allowing you to localize problems. Once you know exactly where the sound is coming from, it may be easier to correct the noise.

Mini fridge compressor makes noise when shutting off

Hello, This is normal. The compressor inside the shell is mounted on spring standoffs. It will move around when shutting off and can hit the inside of the compressor shell or will do the same if the unit is moved around. Nothing to worry about.

How do I stop the loud knocking noises coming from my refridgerator?

Pull the fridge away from the wall and inspect the compressor. Your description sounds like the compressor is hitting something. It is rubber mounted and usually can be pushed away from whatever it is hitting. You do not want to jamb something to stop the noise, as the compressor needs to move freely. Many compressors shake during start up and shutdown, and this is considered normal. Abnormal if the compressor hits something during this movement.

Refrigerator runs fine and when it shuts off makes a banging sound

That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.

Whirlpool fridge incessant buzzing

The knocking noise when cuts off , is a compressor internal motor support spring , broken . This does not mean the compressor is bad , only noisy for the rest of the compressor life , but should be covered under the 5 yr warranty . The gurgling sound is the refrigerant being pumped thru the system . The buzzing could be from the compressor also . My suggestion , would be to call a factory warranty company , to see if they can replace the compressor under warranty .

Refrigerator condenser banging

yeah, you must have knocked the compressor when cleaning, sounds like one of internal spring/mounts in the comp' has dislodged.
replace the compressor is the only fix, unless you can somehow get to the lose spring.
