My new black glass double door fridge and freezer is so noisy it actually wakes me up.Please help.Les
Les,
The nature of the noise can tell you a lot. Is it a smooth compressor sound that is excessively loud? Is it metallic like a fan blade might make if it is hitting something? A squeal like a failing bearing might make? Is it constant? Intermittent? Has it always been there?
I assume the fridge, other than noisy, operates correctly and normally.
You can add acoustic foam to reduce the noise (Find "Black Hole" acoustic absorbing foam or similar). If doing this, you cannot impede the airflow to the heat ex-changers or the compressor motor, or you could drastically shorten the life of your appliance.
You should also try and divine where exactly the noise is coming from. Lacking a stethoscope, a 1/4 " wooden dowel, placed against various areas on one end, and the other on the little skin flap of your ear, will safely telegraph mechanical vibration to your ear, allowing you to localize problems. Once you know exactly where the sound is coming from, it may be easier to correct the noise.
