My BROTHER laser printer HL-5240 , yesterday it suddenly cannot be turned on, no any signal by pushing any button or taking out the drum. Before that, never got any problem before and NEVER had anyone touched this because I live alone.

Drum reset procedure on this model is quite simple. Just open front door, hold down the GO button until all lights are on, let go of button then close door. This will reset drum counter to 100%.

Before you replace the drum you have to clear the error message. To do that you have to Make sure that the printer is turned on and the Drum LED is blinking. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover. Press and hold down Go for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Once all four LEDs are lit, release Go.
Here's a link to the Brother website on how to replace the drum with images and instructions.

Out with the old and in with the new, you remove the toner and drum together, remove the toner from the old drum by pressing the blue lever on the side, install the toner in the new drum, and re install in the printer. With the front door open press the go button til all lights flash and then close the door, the new drum is reset.
Chances are if your drum requires cleaning, it could be faulty or at the end of its life. However if you must clean it DO NOT use any cleaning agents , chemicals or water. Use only the softest lint free cloth you can find and give it a gentle wipe over
The drum light will flash on my brother HL-5240 Laser Printer when printing but it continues to print just fine. Does this mean the drum needs to be replaced?
1) Turn off printer
2)Turn back on
3) Remove Drum and Toner.
4)Press Go for 1 second(it appears to do nothing)
5)Put Drum and Toner back in.
6)Press Go for 1 second(it appears to do nothing)
7)Close door.
Try that
I just solved my similar problem- switch off printer, open front door, hold down go (blue) button. Now switch on, holding the go button for about 10 seconds then closing the door. This left the lights all off, green light only when pressing go. Switch off then on, it worked! hopefully this helps someone else. Ross
