WHIRLPOOL WRF40 Solution to this problem!!! very easy ----I assume you have a problem with the control board switching on and of erratic when you pass setting 3 on the LED display, the designers of this fridge left the calculator at home that day, ask a technician to replace the Resistors 5, 6 & 7 (330 OHM 1/4 watt) on your electronic control board with 680 OHM 1/4 watt. This would solve the problems with this board, the LEDs will not be as bright as they were but still highly visible. Questions? [email protected]
Hi Deon. How do you remove the front panel of the Whirlpool WRF40 IX fridge?
Hi, have you resolved this problem? My fridge now has the same problem.
Hi, can you please help!!! We switched off our WRF40 IX all refrigerator to clean had ice inside and on pipe at the back outside. now it doesn't want cool, motor running. What sound will it make when it's cooling and how long does it take. How do you set the Control on the back of fridge? Thanks francesca
I am using my fridge as a cupboard as I cannot get anyone to repair it. I love the fridge when its working but as I live in Zambia I doubt if It will ever be a fridge again. The thermostats seem to be a design fault judging by the number of queries. [email protected]
Hi all, this fridge have 2 basic problems that happen with it, the first is as mentioned the issue with switch on, switch of on higher settings, changing the Resistors can solve the issue but the main reason to all of this is the two Power supply capacitors that loose their electrolyte over time and they need to be replaced as the no 1 problem fix (difficult parts to get), the second part of the problems and this is mainly when it ice up inside the fridge is the Relay that needs to be replaced that sometimes stuck (24Vdc DPDT orange relay on the board) and the Temperature sensor inside the Fridge (RTD) type that is used by many different makes of fridges. I can replace this parts on the board for you but it is costly. mail me at [email protected].

Hi there guys, ok I just felt I should write a reply here... I had the exact same problem and followed Deon's advice but on my machine it only improved it to run up to light no 3.. Mine was like the 2nd answer only working on light 1...I ended up replacing the stock resistors(330ohm)with 1800ohm resistors... I worked my way up to that number as that was the lowest where the fridge would work up to setting no 5. Any lower than that it didn't want to operate all the way up to 5. As Deon said, the lights as very weak but you can still see it.. Maybe not so well at daytime.. Hope this helps someone. Thanks Deon
Hi. Please tell me how to remove the front panel of a Whirlpool WRF40ix fridge?
Hi all, I want to follow Deon's advice to replace the capacitors, but don't know where to find the PC board on the wrf40ix wirlpool fridge. At this stage I think it's behind the control panel at the top front and if so, I don't know how to open that plastic panel.
Seems somany have asked the same question, but I don't seem to see an answer...

Hi, can someone help to find me a PC Board WRF 40 IXwhirlpool fridge thanks you can call me on 0793349054.
Were can I buy a pc board, mine does not work
Compressor needs a new starter put on it
Seems to be a problem with this fridge. Mine did the same for a couple of weeks (and I have a friend who also has one and it is doing the same) and now only runs on 1 light - useless. Have been told that the "PC" board needs replacing. No stock of the part. Never want to buy Whirlpool again!

Hi all, added to my suggestion I even found a easier way to solve the problem and want to advise this solution rather than replacing the resistors.
After a lengthy investigation I found that the two Yellow high voltage axial drum capacitors on the PCB should be replaced and this totally solve the problem. Whirlpool really used low quality capasitors in this aplication and this is the reason for the whole problem as they age and loose them transfer abilaty since they used as voltage droppers. ****** Make sure to use the same value in Capacitance and specificly voltage, a non polar axial metal film capacitor, this is vital or you will destroy the system !!!!!!
After this replacement you fridge will be as new and all functions restored. Any questions you are welcome to ask or mail me.

Hi All! I am looking for the Owners Manual for the Whirlpool WRF-40 Refrigerator. Can somebody please help. My email is [email protected] . Thanks in advance
HI there, Same problem here, but please how do i remove the front cover without breaking it, I have tried in vain for week now.
Good day ...I had a similar problem with my fridge and also struggled to remove the front cover but eventually removed it. Could someone please indicate whether it is a problem with the resistors or the capacitors?
Regards
There are horizontal clips holding the cover in place, to open push a screw driver into the furtherest point on each corner (from the bottom) and pull the cover horizontally away from the fridge.
Thanks to Deon i have now replaced R5, R6 and R7 on the pcb witk 1k ohm resistors and it seems the on-off switching problem has disappeared.
