Either your coil is dirty or filter is dirty. Worst case your low on freon which would make a coil freeze. But freon doesn't evaporate if your low there must be a slow leak.

As stated, unlike automobiles, home systems, packaged or otherwise are hermetically sealed and should not need freon recharge. Always start with airflow and/or unit being set too low. An AC unit of any type will build ice if a) the filter is plugged up and can't move enough air, b) it has been run without the filter, clogging the coil, again, not moving enough air, c) setting an AC unit below 68 degrees F will almost ALWAYS cause icing, and d) running a standard AC when it's warm inside and cold outside (unless equipped for "low-ambient operation"). When in doubt, a bit of maintenance(thorough cleaning) by someone with AC skills can cure a b, common sense will cure c d.

SOURCE: 1.5T Voltas Vetris window AC. Ice formation

I think the more likely problem is that the unit is slightly short of gas\ refrigerant, which is a common cause of icing up evaporator coils and this sound you describe. First check that the air filter is clean. Another cause could be the defrost sensor is faulty, but I would think not. Some ice isn't actually a bad thing, but quite common as long as it doesn't form over too much of the coil, or get too thick.

SOURCE: cooling fins surrounding coils are freezing and

mcdevito75 here, Possibly, the filter needs cleaning / replacement, unit set to too cold. Shut A/C off, let the ice melt on it"s own DO NOT REMOVE ICE YOURSELF, those coils have the fren gas in them, when the ice is all melted restart unit, set temp. not so cold, around 60--65 degrees, and have exhaust to out. This shpoul;d help, you can always check with your local A/C repair shop, they come to the house.

Evaporator coils are freezing up. I took off the side cover and it is a solid sheet of ice covering 90% of the coils.

Hello, ice will form for one of two raesons, either low airflow or a low refrigerant charge. Start by checking the filter to make sure it is clean, then check the blower wheel and make sure it is clean. If the unit is clean then the unitnis low on refrigerant and will require a hvac tech to come out and recharge the unit.

Drain freezes and bottom ices up ii have thawed it cleaned the hose and it does the same thing each time

My be that the unit is not defrosting. There is a timer that turns off the freezer and turns on a heating element to melt the ice in the cooling fins. If this does not happen the fins fill with ice and ice begins to form as the water drips down under the ice. the bottom will freeze and the top will begin to warm.

Check condenser coil which is the coil on back with fins, sometimes with metal.mesh filter. If dirty or clogged up clean filter, blow out with air or brush and rinse out, careful not to bend fins. Sounds like issue to me. Unless the dump valve may be leaking by

Ice formation on the fins- after about 20 minutes of putting it on, a comlete ice (snow) sheet forms on the fins-blocking airflow into the ac.

three possible prolems here 1 check the evaporator coil and filter to see if they are dirty and need to be cleaned dirt gets into the coil by by-passing the filter or the filter is no longer able to contain the dirt. 2 if there is a opening in your furnace that allows air to the furnance without going through the return air vent this could be a cause 3 low on freon in which a tech will be needed to check. Also check the outside unit and see if the coils have a lot of debris on them if so you can use a garden hose to clean them but make sure to have the power off and just spray the coils nothing else. Good luck

Ice is forming on the vents in my RUUD

filter clean? 2 main reasons for an a/c to ice up

1- evaporator coil is dirty not enough air flow

2- low on freon

if the col is dirty DO NOT try to clean it with a brush you could cause damage to fins.

you may need to call a service company to clean it and check freon level

My cooper line outside on my air conditioner keeps freezing over causing my ac to blow warm air instead of cold air

The evaporator coil that is low pressure and low temperature needs an adequate supply of heat to absorb from air passing over the fins or a thin dusting of frost will begin to form further insulating the coil from the passing air and causing more ice to form. First you have to get rid of all the ice by allowing the coil to thaw you can use a heat gun or hairdryer or lamp to speed the thawing but the fins and copper tubing are thin and easily damaged so don't use tools on the coil to remove ice. After thawed the coil needs to be cleaned with an indoor evaporator cleaner ( I also use a small shopvac and nylon brush) Then be sure that the filter is clean and the blower is functioning properly then if the suction line is still frosting you will have to verify that the size of the outdoor section is not over sized in relation to the evaporator coil and that the system is charged to meet the compressors manufactures specifications.

Ice on the coil fins of my Window AC unit......

set your unit to fan mode only, to thaw the ice, after the ice melts, look at your evaporator coil, see if its dirty, if its dirty, then you might just need a good cleaning. if the coil is clean, look at your thermostat setting. it should not be all the way cold. the compressor would run continously and it would freeze the coil. third, the refrigerant system could be partially clogged up or it lacks refrigerant. these problems initiate freezing of the coil.

Air conditioner

If the air flow is restricted or partially blocked (dirty cooling fins, filter etc), ice will form inside becaue the air stays in ithe cooling coil or fils for a long period of time. Lack of freon will not cause Ice formation because there is not enough cooling power.
