I have a Toshiba 57H83 and recently purchased the directtv hd/dvr box for it. I was wondering how to get the best quality hd picture....it is hooked up with green/blue and white cables and we use the hd Colorstream 1 input but someone else said he thought I may get a better quality picture by using the s-video cable instead. The guy from Direct tv also left a hdmi cable incase I needed it but will that even work with this tv? Please help.

Your cable company should be able to supply an HD settop box that has component video output for HD. I have one from Cablevison. It is a Scientific Atlanta (SA) 4200HD.

This is a wild guess, but I believe that you are being **** by the movie industry. The HDMI protocol includes a form of DRM (Digital Rights Management) for high resolution content called: High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection Basically this means that the media (disk or broadcast) instructs the player (in your case the cable box) to insist that any downstream devices (your TV) is industry and DRM compliant. Specifically this evil protection scheme is designed to plug the analog hole and make it impossible for you to record or copy the movie by using an analog output from your TV. This even restricts the size of the TV you can play the movie on, thus preventing pubs and bars from displaying the content on big screen TVs without paying royalties. The message means that the manufacturer of your TV has refused to toe the industry line. 1984 Anyone ? Martin

it sounds like a convergence problem and there are different settings for 720 and 1080 in the service registers

I had the 65" version of that TV. Loved it, unfortunately it went bad as well. It sounds like the red tube went bad. The tube itself might sell for $400 plus. The installation will take several hours with the alignments which will need to be done. Then after all that you will start to have to worry about the other tubes starting to deteriorate. If there is any red in the picture then the tube is most likely the problem. At tat point I would say buy a new TV. The best bang for the buck if you want size and have the space for it would be the new Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP's. I just installed one at customers house. The 60" Mitsubishi is 1400 at Best Buy Good Luck Rob

If you have the wires switched GEEN,BLUE,RED on one end the color will be wrong. Check that the color off the wires are matched. Try a new cable. I've seen this a lot.
