Replaced water filter - now water trickles out

I have replaced my old water filter with a new one, and now water only comes out in a very little, slow stream.
It sounds as though it is trying to function, but then it makes a rattling sound at the back of the fridge and then the water just trickles.

Any ideas??

SOURCE: we changed the water filter, now we have a blast

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. If this just started after a filter change then the problem is right at the filter. Here is what I suspect has happened. The filter is supposed to depress a flapper in the housing where the filter locks into. If by chance you got a filter that has the lock tabs in a slightly different positon or the tip is shorter than the previous one it may not be going into the housing far enough to open the flapper.
Remove the filter you currently have installed again. Then when you reinstall it
push very HARD in before rotating it to the locked postion. This should ensure the flapper opens and stays open. If you have the same symptom after doing this the tip of the filter may very well be too short to open the flapper.
To be honest I have seen this symptom often where the user has purchased the incorrect replacement filter and they experience the exact symptom you described. There are several different lock in type cartridges and the locking ends vary in length and the position of the locking tabs so if the wrong filter gets installed the end result is as you described.

If you pass your model number I will respond with the correct filter for your unit.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Water does not flow

Sounds like air in the line.....the filter may be cracked/damaged, or not quite seated...?

since you've tried 2 new ones....I'm gonna bet they are not quite the correct ones for your fridge.

Ge profile refrigerator slow water dispenser

you have a seperate valve for ice maker and water dispenser, though it is possible both could have debris preventing proper water flow, i would check the water pressure you have going into the valve solenoid housing. turn off water to fridge, disconnect the line at the fridge, not in basement at saddle valve. place end of tube in bucket, turn on water. how is pressure? good or slow? if its good, then you probably do need to replace valve solenoid housing. You can NOT clear debris out of these, they must be replaced.
If your water pressure is still not good, either y ou have a kink in plastic water line. Despite having changed saddle valve in basement, if the stem of saddle valve is mounted on bottom half of pipe, debris from pipe is getting into water line and so on. Toto flapper seems ok but toilet keeps slow trickle into the bowl

The water inlet valve should close completely and stop water from coming into the tank before the water level reaches the "small tube." (This is the overflow tube.)

There may be an o-ring or rubber gasket inside the valve that can be replaced. If not, you would have to replace the water inlet valve.

HAVE REPLACE THE FILTER, NO WATER OR ICE WHEN FILTER WAS OUT MADE ONE BATCH OF ICE THEN STOPPED NO NOTHING WATER IS ON NO KINKS IN HOSE WHAT IS WRONG THANKS ROSE

Try putting the old filter back in . Just because the " change filter " light comes on , does not mean to actually change the filter if your water dispensor is not just trickling out . If water was coming out fine before replacing filter , no need to replace it just because ot the indicator . I have found new filters which worked worse than the old filter . Just put the old filter back in and problem solved .

Kitchenaid fridge (ksrw25crss02)icemaker slowly stopped working, decreasing in the amount of ice it made until finally no ice at all. also, water trickles from water dispencer.

hi kev215,
welcome to fixya.com.

Huuum at your service.

You said, the ice maker slowly stopped working, decreasing in the amount of ice it made until finally no ice at all. also, water trickles from water dispenser.

The first thing I would ask is when did you last change your water filter in the fridge?
Or if it's an older fridge with an inline filter behind the fridge!
check the shut off valve for the water line that leads to you ice maker. under the sink or in the basement or where ever the line comes from. I've seen where someone turned the valve a little clockwise unbeknown to the home owner and stopped or slowed the water flow.

The water line should be checked too, for any kinking that may be running behind the fridge or some unseen place!

How old is the fridge??

Let me know,
Thank you Huuum

Monogram water flow problem

common low flow is a kinked line or a bad water valve, the solioid valve has a filter that may be dirty. then go from there
