Upon first start you should be prompted. If not, you will find a series of buttons on the TV itself; power,channel up down, volume up/down, input and menu. Hit the menu button and the menu will pop up. Scroll up and down with channel button, select and controls are the volume. either that or you can get a Samsung phone that has an app built into it called watch on, which has a universal remote that works for virtually everything. If the TV is not working well and you don't want to take it in for repair, then a band aide would be to get a sound bar ~$50 and use that for sound. You may have to get an AV selector box if you have more than one playback unit.

There are lots of common problems with flat screens that result in those symptoms. Some fixes are super easy and cost $.35 haha and others can cost hundreds not to mention if your doing it your self or not factor in labor. Lots of people sell tv s like that from $50 to $100 bucks and they sell quick! Hell I'd buy it if I had the chance. Could use parts or god forbid find an easy solution ( rare :( )

Check its speaker. If it is OK, check and replace damaged component/s on it audio output board, or replace the board as card basis.

First of all ensure that this problem is not from the input device, by changing it to some other like a DVD player to rule that out. Then look for any loose contacts in RC jacks, sockets and cables.

Go into menu, sound set-up, and switch SRS to off. It's a vizio thing they came up with to act like "Smart Sound" where commercials won't be louder. It is total BS and does not work, it makes your normal sound fluctuate. Worked on all 3 of my Vizios. Hope it helps you.

On remote hit tv button hold set up until it flashes twice. Hit 11758 it will flash 4 times hit set up to lock. Now hit tv button and the volume should work on set.. Hope that works

I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.

For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.
