HMM .. if the grass is not going into the collector, I would look under the deck and see if there is something blocking the chute to the bag.

the mower engine should stop as soon as you leave the seat. check the switches for grass clogs and such. shut off the deck and replace the catcher. then start it. oh and dont do that again. read the manual

The blades don't push the grass to the bags

the blades are the wrong ones for throwing grass clippings
they have to have turned up edge to generate an air flow out of the chute to the bag
talk with the mower shop for the correct blades

My ride on lawn mower is cutting out every time i try to engage the cutting blades

Sometimes it is due to the ETHANOL fuel you are using. ETHANOL is attracting moisture and after a while it builds up water in the tank.

Which way up does a mountfield empress 16 blade go on? should the wings of the blade point upwards? It is cutting the grass, but leaving trails behind the machine and not filling the bag, so I wonder

The blades should have the cutting edge going forward and at the bottom so this is the lowest part of the blade. This means the wing should be at the top. If the blades are upside down they will be hard to drive and leave a mess of strips behind.

Tractor leaves swaths of cut grass

When that happens to me it means that I need to replace my blades. It shows on my mower by leaving a line behind of cut grass on the right side. If it leaves a stripe in your yard that would be between the blades they need replaced because they are worn and have become too short.

I have a single cylinder Ranch King riding lawn mower. Model # 133K6796205. Bought in 1993. I need to know what type of oil to put in it? I am also having a problem with the grass collector. Even if...

Hello You can use straight 30 w oil most engine manufactures agree for summer equipment now for winter where it gets cold like in a snow blower the request you to use 5-W30. As far as your grass collector check your blades #1 to see if they are the correct blades for that mower. #2 yes the engine will overheat as the clumped of grass will slow down the blades causing more load on the engine. This is not a uncommon problem wet or damp grass will clump up even if you do not have a grass collector,it will stick under the deck again causing problems.Hopefully this helps.
Thanks Ben

Husqvarna ct 135 mower, when attempting to engage cutters with lever beside steering wheel the alarm sounds and then the engine cuts out

Hi Janet,
its the warning button on the grass collector. If the button is not pressed in fully, the machine thinks that the grass collector is off, and therefore stops the engine. I had the same problem. If you take the grass collector off, you will see the button on the top left side of the back of the mower. It is covered by a strip of black plastic that slots over it.

To fix the problem my first solution was to tape a washer onto the plastic strip, thereby ensuring that the button is pressed fully in when the grass collector is on. When I got tired of the washer continually falling out, I used a screw to jam the button in. You should be aware though, that with the second method you will be able to engage the cutters with the grass box removed. Potentially a small child (with long arms) could put his/her arm down the shute and chop fingers off etc. I have no kids, and thereby feel safe.

Can a mulching blade work in a non-mulching mower?

True Mulching mowers have a specific deck design to them, but I would say yes to your question. It's been quite a few years, but I have done this little conversion myself - replace regular blade with a mulching blade. Just make sure the mulch blade does fit your mower. Also, use something substantial in terms of strength to close the discharge opening. There can be a good deal of force placed at the opening from flying debris. You'll also want to make the cover removable, so you can mow damp grass without the cover.
