Tryed installing new bios upgrade, screen flickerd on reboot now is doa on reboot, model 1640z/xp home edition ?? what do I do !!

Hi,

It should be ok, as this can happen quite often.

Remove the AC adapter from the laptop, then the battery.

Press and hold the on/off button for 30 seconds, then reinsert the battery (not AC) and hit the on/off button.
The laptop should now start up and you can plug in AC power.

If it still won't turn on after this then chances are you flashed it with the wrong BIOS update.

Good luck.

I have Acer Aspire 1640Z notebook and I tryed to update the bios but it was not succesfully updated and power off . when I power on its give me 1 long and 2 short beeps and blank screen . How do i reset...

The only thing you can do that I am aware of, is attempt to remove the battery and unplug the system. Then remove your CMOS battery which is usually located under the keyboard.

If you do not feel comfortable disassembeling your PC then dont do it!

But, if removing the CMOS BAttery does not work, you might be out of luck. Improper installation or updating of your BIOS in many cases will render your PC inoperable, I hate to say that, but they warn you of this before the installation starts!

Let me know what you find or if you need more assistance!

Bios problems

If this is under warenty take it in if not your going to need to access inside of it and move the bios jumper and the flash the bios again, This time back to its orginal settings before you did this.

Remember if there was nothing wrong with the computer in the first place you nevr want to flash the bios i do not care if its a unpdated one.

Bios reset on a acer aspire 1640z

To reset the bios in a laptop you need to unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Once you do that press and hold the power button for 45 seconds then put the battery back on and plug it in and then try starting it. Everything in the bios will be reset to the factory.

How can i get update for Bios

Hi there.

You can download the BIOS update from the Acer website here:
http://us.acer.com/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=25&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&CountryISOCtxParam=US&ctx1g.c2att92=453&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2054404012

Just select your make and model, then underneath that, select your Operating System. Then just click on the BIOS tab, then the orange icon to the left of the BIOS file.

Hope that helps.
