Washer stops by itself, have to press start continuously

My washer turns off by itself mid-fill or spin, it does this continuously. I have to re-press the start button over and over during washing a load of clothes. I may come back and the water will have only filled the washer half way, or it fills and never drains, or it may drain but never spin. This is very frustrating, any solutions?

Lid is not locking properly, washer sensor is overfilling, and the washer wont spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

GE WBSE3120 Washer stops mid cycle

if it makes a grinding sound when in spin this is the tub seals or bearing and basically you'll have to replace the washer.very common with this ge washer, not one of ge's best product, also why it stops mid cycle could be anything, this washer has a computer board biult on top of the motor that also failed,if your having all these issues i think that washer sold for like 500 dollars,it would cost more just to repair it,i wouldn't put 5 cents into it,do yourself a favor and get a new washer.

Does not spin out clothes, keeps running in water as long as spin is enabled and does not follow cycle selected.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Lid Switch Assembly If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer stops mid cycle the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Water Inlet Valve If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Main Control Board If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.
Timer If the washer stops mid cycle the timer might be defective. This part is often misdiagnosed, check other components before replacing this timer.

Washer keeps filling w/ water, only stops when changed to spin

Your drain line is too low.
OR the drain line is restricting air where it enters the drain stand pipe.
Remove the drain line and hold it up high.
Turn the washer on to fill. It should fill then stop.
This example should explain what you must do to correct the drain line problem.
