My GE Profile is 1.5 yrs old and I have the same problem. I came home to find all my food spoiled! It seems many GEs have had this problem, I agree GE should do something, there are expensive units.

SOURCE: My GE GSS22SGMBBSCC side by side refrigerator does not cool the upper freezer portion

Most newer GE fridges have dc fan motors controlled by a computer board. Sometimes the board just fails and sometimes the fan can cause the board to fail.

SOURCE: froze but won't could

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

 • possible causes:
 1. bad defrost timer/control board
 2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
 3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

The fan should be a standard 12v DC computer style fan , test that you are getting voltage to the fan connector . You should also be able to get the fan to run by connecting it to a suitable supply . Once you have eliminated the possibility of fan failure then it gets more involved.

They should be under the unit.

open the doors and feel the middle strip.if that's hot check the condenser fan to make sure it's running and clean out the coil in the back.pull out the machine, remove the bottom panel,on the right side you'll see the coil, with a shop vac vac off the coil and then put it on blow and blow out the coil, that's the only way to clean this kind of coil and make sure the fan is blowing back there.let me know what you find, also send the full model number, open the fridge door, look at the right wall near the ceiling and you should see the model number.

Refridgerator will not get cold, frezzer portion works fine

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it'll be the control.

I have a GE PROFILE pds22mhr and the freezer seems to be getting warmer. I took the back panel off and places some house fans on the coils and it seems to be dropping in Temp. I think the fan is no good...

Listen in the freezer side for the fan if you cannot hear or feel the air or fan running you probably need to replace it. Remove the back panel in the freezer to access the fan motor.

If this was helpful please rate me.
IMUFO2
Leo Ponder Appliance-Tyler,Texas
[email protected]

Ge profile side by side fridge - fridge not cooling/freezer fine

The problem you are having is what is called defrost. This unit is supposed to do a defrost every 8 hours. If it fails to do so the coils will get a heavy heavy frost on them and the evap fan cannot circulate the cold air thru the freezer and into the fridge. you will need to defrost the coils with a hair dryer. Will probably take about 45 min.'s to a hour. The most common cause for this is the defrost heater located at the bottom of the coils. Replace this and you will be fine to go. Freezer works but frigde isn't working

once ice forms on the freezer coils there is no air flow. I had the same thing. I suspect your defrost cycle is compromised. Could be the bimetal switch, defrost timer or defrost heater element.
