I have a homelite trimmer Model # UT20044b, serial # AH1644683 and the engine is 25cc 5HCPS. I changed the spark plug this morning and it is still very difficult to start. Once it is started I can only run the unit in "choke" (the unit has a 3 switch setting, I think choke is the middle position but I do not have the unit in front of me) I can give the unit gas in choke position and cut gas, but if I place the unit in the "run" position and give it gas the unit will immediately shut off. Even in the choke position the unit will cut off a couple of times before I finish cutting the grass. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.
