I am trying to set fingerprint for my toshiba laptop for the first time. it is giving "error: unable to open drivers"
The security software should have been installed at Toshiba. If not it is easy to download and install. You should have a biometric coprocessor driver which runs the scanner. That sounds like what is missing. If you had to reinstall windows this may not have been put back in.
To get the drivers go to www.toshiba.com and then click on support.-mobile computing - drivers download. This pops up a new window that you now have to click on what model you have. I have a Tecra A8 201E so I click on notebook in the left, Tecra, then A8 and then on 201E then click on the go button. You should filter by operating system so you are only looking at the right drivers. There are three downloads for the security. One will be called HDD security, TPS Trusted Platform Security, and Fingerprint software. If you download those and save to your desktop then you can easily run then as needed. When you have them run the one called fingerprint software. That should install the scanner drivers and may be all that you need. Try running it after installing this. Make sure your backup password is something you can remember. If your scanner fails and you can't remember that then you can get locked out of your computer.
The TPS provides some other tools such as a 'safe' that saves files in an encrypted area. You can disable it if it inteferes too much.
The HDD utility locks the hard drive which can stop people from using your computer as they won't have your fingerprint to unlock the drive.
