Re: my maytag dependable care plus electric dryer doesn't...
Does the timer move when it's almost ready to shut off if not most likely need a timer. Can you turn it by hand to finish the cycle and shut it off. If not must be timer.
Hope this helps

Because the timer consists of a small motor connected to a series of gears that rotate cams, which turn electric contacts off and on inside the timer. The timer contacts control the dryer motor as well as the heat circuit and the timer motor itself. A defective timer motor or a defect in the timer's electrical contacts can cause the timer motor to fail and the timer will need to be replaced. The contacts can be checked for continuity with a multi-meter. This test should only be made with the power removed from the dryer.
Will the timer advance in the NO HEAT mode? If it does advance you would know it has something to do with the temp alright but if it don't advance in No Heat then the timer motor is bad in my opinion. And it can fail by more than one way. Open winding OR stripped motor gear.
If this is one of the electronic models: Clean the sensor strips located inside the drying area. As wet clothes rub against these the control monitors the resistance changes and knows the clothes are still wet therefore it continues to operate. When buildup from dryer sheets and fab softener get on them strips a barrier is formed that repels dampness. Therefore the control does not know the clothes are wet and goes to the end thinking all is Kosher. Clean them sensor strips with Windex and party on!
Don';t throw the dryer away yet. Check the circuit breaker in the electric panel to see it it has popped. If it checks out ok then check where you plug the dryer electric cord in. There may be an overload pop-out button on the receptacle. If there is, reset it.
There should be a timer motor on the timer. That is most likely burnt out and will cause the timer to not shut down. Just replace the timer and that will solve the problem
I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
the timer has a small motor to advance the timer. the motor is the likely problem. on some old maytags you can get just the motor, but you probably will have to replace the complete timer. hope this helps.
