I have a whirlpool top loader and i recently changed the coupler now the machine runs for a little bit then it shuts off and does nothing ill play around with the switchs and then i get it togo back on (not sure if that is actually doing anything) then it shuts down again motor feals pretty hot and at some point when it does run i can leave the top open and not hold the lid switch and it stays doing its thing can anyone help

It shouldn't run with the lid switch open I would try another switch or bypass it and see if that cures the problem It should fill with lid switch open.

If you had the washer tilted back when you replaced the coupler, this may just be a simple matter of releveling the washer. Whirlpool top loaders have an auto-leveling mechanism on the back two feet of the washer. Periodically, you may need to check the level due to normal vibration and moving the appliance.. Hi, Is the humming noise coming from the timer area? Do you know if it agitates ok? When you have it in spin cycle, Try lifting the lid and see if the hum stops. The reason for these questions is that on this model, if it drains the water out but does not spin, it is either lid switch, coupler, or transmission. If it's the coupler, it will not agitate either. Please let me know so I can assist you further.
If it's a top loader, the coupler is broken. It's located between the motor and the gearcase. If you put it in spin and hear the motor run, this is your problem. It drains because the pump is mounted on the opposite side of the coupler and will be un-affected
you probably closed the lid to hard and broke the switch that tells the machine that it is closed. So the machine thinks the lid is open and for saftey reasons will not operate. I had the same problem. You can buy a new switch for about $10 or you can simply cuts the wires for the switch and wire them together. If you do this be warned that the machine will never know if the lid is open or closed. The machine will assume that the lid is always closed. But it will work also.
