The plastiic pullies are bad. some straight from factory have the bearing inserted wrong ,so install a new metal pully. their might be a recall for this problem or a technical bulliten for this problem. check with a sears rep.

Replace drive belt lt 1000

look for tag on inside of hood for belt numbers. Or get model number off of tag under seat that starts with a 917. then call the 800 number.
instructions... Remove deck, remove pto pulley/ clutch, lock brake, remove crank pully and belt from crankshaft then remove belt from transmission and idler pulleys. Reassemble in reverse order with new belt ensureing the belt is not snagged on any belt guides and all idler pulleys are free.. ( PS sharpen blades while deck is off and check deck belt)

Lt 1000 new deck belt is smoking, is there a break-in period for new belts?

First, you need to check to make sure you have the belt on correctly. There needs to be a tensioner holding the belt in proper tension. I have had a few deck issues where a bearing is worn out and it could be smoking when the grease gets hot. See if you can get a diagram for the belt position and check your bearings and idlers. Also make sure it is cleaned out so that you don't have a lot of grass in there that could be burning and smoking.Good luck.

I have a craftsman lt 1000 riding lawn mower and it runs, but it won't go into gear it goes into gear, but clutch won' engage the gear.

Look under the mower to see if the drive belt has come off or broke. It is the belt that runs from the bottom of the engine to the rear axle.

I bought a new belt for my2005 lt 1000 42" deck

for a deck no.. Most everything on the deck is done by springs.. what i would do is look at the deck make sure nothing is rubbing the belt making it rip apart.. or make it to not engage.. i would with the engine off engage the blade and disengage the blade make sure all the brakes are pulling away from the pulleys and making sure all the arms are moving to tighten the belt.. if nothing is moving then i double check the cable or however engages the deck (all mowers are different) and if need the part. If the cable is not broken and is still on deck make sure all springs are lubed. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask

Could you send me a diagram how the drive belt goes around the pullys thanks its a craftsman lt 1000 not sure of the year model

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Here is the diagram:
http://www.brandywineits.com/graphics/LT1000/PulleyConfig.jpg

One of the major problems on the LT 1000 is that the belt gets installed wrong side out. Just make sure the V of the belt rests in all of the mandrel and drive pulleys correctly.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Is it possible for the belt to stretch out so much that it won't engage the blades. It worked last year and now it doesn't. I have looked at all the obvious possible problems and it appears that none of...

your belts will stretch out and only have a life span of 1 or 2 seasons. There should be nearly no slack once the blades are engaged. Make sure it didn't slip off any of the pullys and the belt tensionor is on correctly. Check belt for cracking or fray makrs on edges as these are clear signs of a worn belt.

Mower Belt Won't Engage

The fact is that belts don't stretch. They wear down on the sides, causing them to ride deeper in the pulleys and they APPEAR to be longer. Check belt "width" to see if it is less than one half inch. Most craftsman riders use half-inch (AKA: "A section") belts.
