Residual water remains on bottom of dishwasher. When I press the two buttons to cancel/drain it makes noise but doesn't empty and I don't hear the usual gurgling of water going down pipe. Kitchen sink is not clogged , the drain/filter is clean, there is no kink in the hose.

Also, before replacing things, make sure that the drain hose goes upwards and then into the drain. Sometimes the drain hose doesn’t arch upwards into the drain or garbage disposal and the waste water from the sink, including particles of food, will go down into the drain hose and into the dishwasher. Simple fix, but easily overlooked. Just a suggestion:)

You need to replace the drain pump on the dishwasher, the motor most likely has something caught inside and will only open/close so far.

SOURCE: bosch dishwasher SHX46 won't fill with water

My model is actually a SHX46 but I was able to piece together some advice off of this site. This is what I did. I removed the toe plate and then I soaked up all the water that I could out of the white pan at the bottom. Then I unhooked the water supply line so that I could pull the dishwasher out. Once I got it out, I tipped it forward to drain out the rest of the water. I then unhooked the drain line that was connected to the disposal and cleaned it out with a "Snake line" I then hooked everything back up and it worked. Thanks so much for this website, I know it saved me a ton of $$$$$$$$$.

SOURCE: Stopping the Cancel/Drain Cycle

Disconnect the Drain Hose from the plumbing under the sink and using a bucket hold the hose in the bucket and attempt to drain the dishwasher. If you have a disposal and recently replaced it, the knockout plug may be still inside where the drain hose attaches into the disposal. To determine if it is still there, using a screwdriver, stick the screwdriver into the drain hose hole on the side of the disposer and if you feel blockage then the knockout plug is still in the disposer and will need to come out. To remove the plug use a short screwdriver and a hammer and place the screwdriver into the drain and strike the top of the screwdriver once and the plug should pop out of the disposal. Be careful not to hit the disposal too hard or to damage any plumbing. Reattach the drain hose and you should be all set. When you remove the drain hose if the machine is flashing an error code, go to the circuit breaker box and turn off the breaker for the dishwasher, wait 5 mins and turn it back on. This should reset the board and the machine should operate properly.

SOURCE: Bosch dishwasher: won't fill with water

The flood switch is tripped. This is located under the unit. Unplug or flip the breaker to the dishwasher, take off the black kick plate under the door, 2 screws, and you will see the white plastic "pan". The flood switch is located where you can't really see it but it is on the left hand side wall and is made of styrofoam. The best thing to do is to put some rags in the pan, this is not easy because there is little room to put them, and soak-up the water that has filled the pan. Eventually you will get enough water out that the float will deactivate the switch. What you hear "running" when you turn it on is actually the drain pump, it get activated when the flood switch is tripped.

SOURCE: bosch dishwasher shx55m with bottom tub full of water

The dishwasher really shouldn't pass any particles near large enough to clog the drain hose. It sounds more like a mechanical issue. Check the circuit breaker to make sure it's not tripped. See if you can hit a cancel button or something to make it drain. Try to run another cycle. If the computer is stuck or acting funny, trying cutting the power for a while, holding down a stop/reset/cancel button, or running a cycle that you don't usually run. I had this kitchenaid that would randomly refuse the normal wash cycle, but would run fine when you ran rinse only or something, then regular wash and everything would be fine again too. If the line somehow is clogged, there's a good chance it's right where the hose connects to the disposal or drain pipe.

Why is there water standing in the bottom of my dishwasher after it has completed the wash and dry cycles.......

If water remains in the dishwasher after the cycles end, check the kitchen sink drain to make sure it's not clogged. If there's no clog, try pressing the Cancel button; most dishwashers run the drain pump when the Cancel button is pressed.
Check the dishwasher drain line, drain path and drain pump.

Water Remains in dishwasher after cycle

Few things to check....if it is a push button....press the start button and then press the cancel button, the drain should engage. if it is a timer setup, turn it to the cycle start and close the door, will drain unit. If water doesnt drain and you hear a pump running then you have a clog.....be sure to check your disposal plug, where the drain hose connects to. if water just appears in d/w while not in use check the drain hose position....should loop up from the drain to prevent backwash into d/w.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

The only button that works is the cancel drain

Sounds like a keypad malfunction or the control board has gone bad.

Ran on normal cycle when done 2 inches of water on bottom

Test by restarting the cycle and see if water drains if it does not then there is either a blockege in the pipe ,pump,or in the machine where the water passes out normally through a filter if you have checked and cleaned out filter and drain pipe and there is still no draining then listen to the pump if you can hear a humming niose then there is something in the pump itself and you need to take it out and inspect the impelar houseing remove what ever is there put back and enjoy if there is no noise and pump is clean then it is proberly fualty and nedd replaceing.

My dish washer does not drian completly

the water must pump uphill to the air gap. the last water in the line drops down the hose, and is in quantity equally to the volume of the hose from the bottom of the pump to the top of the hose. that flows to the bottom of the sump in the unit. if enough, it appears as residual water in the bottom. its ok.
