Black smoke is coming from the muffler - Garden

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Your engine is running rich. Try running the engine with the air filter removed. If it clears up you will need to replace the air filter.

the black liquid is most likely oil and the smoke indicates the rings are bad or a valve is sticking allowing oil into the cylinder.

I have 1994 honda civic and theres white grey smoke coming out the muffler

are you sure that it is smoke ? it may be steam which would indicate a blown head gasket or cracked head, usually if the engine is getting too much fuel the smoke is black & if it is burning oil it is blue, if it is steam it will dissipate into the atmosphere very quickly, but blue or black smoke will linger for a while, you need to be certain exactly what it is before you can take any action to repair the problem......hope this helps......cheers.

Black smoke coming out in the muffler

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If there's a black smoke coming out of the muffler then have the o2 sensor replaced. The air fuel ratio has irregularities and by replacing the o2 sensor the problem can be resolved.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

White smoke coming from the muffler, loud noise...

One potential cause is too much gas. It may be running "rich". Your car may also be burning a little oil. White smoke is water or antifreeze. If you are loosing coolant from the radiator, it's probably a blown head gasket. If not, it is just condensation in the exhaust pipe that is evaporating as the pipes heat up. If the car is running too rich, the unburned gas will cause black smoke and burning oil smoke will be blue.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

Having problems starting Makita strimmer. There is quite a lot of smoke coming out and then it stops. Have looked at spark plug -clean, and cleaned air filter. Could the problem be the petrol and oil mix.

Use 50:1 gas/oil with a GOOD QUALITY 2-cycle low-ash synthetic oil.

Remove the muffler and check the spark arrestor isn't partially blocked.

With a clear muffler, and the mix as described, there will be hardly any smoke at all.

My Troy-Bilt mower starts easily but not as powerful, stays on for less than 5 minutes and gradually stops. some black smoke is coming out

If the black smoke comes out of the muffler, you are burning excess fuel and could have an air filter plugged up to restrict air intake and cause the engine to run rich, therefor black smoke.

I just bought a dodge dakota 1997 smoke is coming out the muffler what could this be?

Well is the smoke coming out the exhaust BLUE or BLACK if Blue then its due to engine burning oil ..ie,,Piston rings /Valve seals etc etc
If Black then its fuel to much fuel going in engine and not being burnt.
So let me know more infomation and what colour smoke it is then we can get the problem sorted..
