We purchased a JVC LT-42Z49 TV in November 2009. After owning the TV for about a week the TV picture went to black and after a minute or two the picture came back on. This continued on an off for another two months and then the picture went to black (sound continued) and the picture did not come back. We have had the TV in and out of the JVC authorized repair guy twice. The first time they "repaired" it they simply reset the computer and returned it to us. Within an hour and a half the picture went to black and did not return, again sound continued. The second "repair" replaced the lamp. We got the TV back and it worked for 2 weeks and went out again. THe last 2 times the TV picture was lost we were watching a DVD on our Panasonic Home theater system. Both times the TV has gone into the shop we've hooked up our old Hitachi and we've had NO problems with it. We did replace the HDMI cable (the only difference between the two TVs) and it seemed to make no difference. Please help! thank you

SOURCE: Picture blacks out after a few seconds after turning on the tv

Anytime an LCD has a shade of pink, that means the CCFL lamps are about to go out. Now that you have a black screen, I'd say you just need some new bulbs.

Sound stays on, but no picture- goes black and stays that way.

This unit should still be under warranty and should be taken in for warranty service. Any attempt to access the interior will void the warranty. It is important that a complete description of the problem like you entered here be taken along when you bring the set in for service. This will insure that the servicer be able to reproduce the problem and resolve it.

From your description (and as a servicer), I would be looking for a component that is heat sensitive. These types of problems are fairly easy to locate and resolve.

Please take this in for warranty service and update this when you find out the details.

Thanks,
Dan

No Picture

I am deeply sorry but you will need to replace the backlight bulbs. These are not available.

Look on Ebay for a 32" JVC with a broken LCD Screen. Buy it and use these bulbs to fix your TV. I am sure there will be a few good ones in the broken TV. It's that or list it on Ebay for $50 and expect to get about 200-300.

LCD Panel repair for this problem is $500 for parts so you are stick with repair yourself or sell.

TV screen went dark, but sound still there.

your backlight burnt out, this will be a maybe several hundred dollar repair. the screen is backilt by a very expensive flourescent light, without that light, the screen will be black.
