Sound like one of your circuit boards has a bad connection or bad component and the low voltage circuit that powers the tuner is not working. The high voltage circuit that powers the picture will not power up if the low voltage circuit fails.
Make sure your SAP button is not turned on. This will give you a no audio condition when watching broadcasts thru the tuner. If this doesn't help then your tuner could be defective.
Is there a PC mode and hook up on this model? If so try and use the TV as a monitor for your PC. If it has a picture your tuner could be the problem. I had the same cinerio with my new Toshiba 42" Hdtv. Hooked up a DVD player recorder with a tuner and it worked. It had a bad tuner in the TV. You don't mention if there is sound. If you have sound then it maybe the light for the LCD pic.
Sony PTVs do get bad CRTs, to confirm you can pull the front cover and tap on the middle CRT (green) neck with a plastic handle if the green screen flashes back to normal or brighter and causes the TV to shutdown then the CRT is bad. sometimes you can make it stay working for awhile, but eventually the CRT will need replacing. if this doesn't help you can turn the bottom middle control counter clockwise to lower the green .
hope this helps
Eric
You were told correctly, you have a bad lamp. When the lamp gets old, the reflector becomes cloudy and instead of reflecting the light, it converts it into heat. As the lamp heats, it draws more power, eventually too much power and the set "recycles" because the lamp is drawing too much power. Replace the lamp, use an original Sony lamp as the aftermarket replacements are known troublemakers. If the bulb fixes the problem (and I know it will because I fix these TV's everyday) be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
