The service manual will do no good because it does not go into detail on the lens unit.
You can buy the manual online cheap enough, try here - http://www.smpcshop.com

Motherboard is dead, and it costs much to take it to the repair shop. It doesn't pay off, for that amount of money you can buy a better camera. I'm trying to find a web shop and to check the price, so i could repair it myself, but had no luck finding it so far. Anyone?
Yes, there was a "recall".
Although the wording "recall" is not correct; they offered a free ccd replacement for the affected cameras.
The customer had to initiate the process.
Please do a bit of research on Google and you will find it.
Also have a look at www.s5000.net
Unfortunately you received the "Standard Answer" from Fuji.
There was a recall (free repair) for the Finepix S5000 from Fuji.
It affected the ccd-sensor of many cameras.
It does depend on the serial number of your camera.
Email them and give them your camera details.
You might get it repaired.
They do not sell any ! spares .
4/8/08 FOR ALL CCD SENSOR'S MFG by Sony: Found the answer. Sony Repair service is fixing for free any CCD sensor problems on "any" camera that had a "Sony Manufactured CCD sensor". I have now called the service center and they sent me a UPS Return label so I can send my camera in for "free" repair. This is good news!!! I can't remember the site I was on but they listed all brands that had the Sony mfg. CCD sensors in them. So call the Sony Repair Center to find out if your camera has the Sony CCD sensor in it. This was an error in the manufacturing process and they are standing good for this.
CCD sensor is faulty and should be replaced by Fuji agent free of charge because properly manufactured CCD sensor should last 15 years at least. Otherwise pay for labor to have new CCD block put in ( 1 hour ) and insist on the agent covering the cost of the part.
