Many times in the setup menu there is a audio configuration or a internal speaker configuration. This allows you to turn the internal speakers off. I would check that first.

No sound when using an external source ie DVD player through an hdmi cable but the sound is fine when just using the TV

May be its not the fault of the TV. Check the hdmi audio setting of the DVD player. Change the player audio output format setting from bitsream to PCM. hope you will get the audio.

How do I hook up a dvd player?

Hello Andy, Hi!, you can hook up your DVD in 3 ways. 1. using standard RCA cables, 2, using Svideo cables, and 3. using HDMI cables. Depending on your player. I suggest you buy the RCA cable. they are color coded so the yellow goes to the player Video out to the TV video in, red and white cables goes to the Left and Right channel of the player audio out to the TV audio in. thats it.

THE DVD PLAYS, BUT THERE'S NO SOUND.

Check the sound settings on your tv. go into the menu and scroll to sound. this is especially important if you are using an hdmi cable. but even with rca jacks my hdtv needed to be set up in the menu. also make sure your cables are properly plugged in ie audio -in-, audio-out

This unit does not have a HDMI cable in put . Is there a cable adapter to accomplish this?

You do have a DVI input for this Dell W3000 so to connect to a box that has HDMI you will need a HDMI to DVI cable. When you connect to a cable/DVD or satellite box via HDMI/DVI you will have to run separate connectors for audio as this setup wont pass sound to the TV. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

Here is a link to look at the cable type you will need.

When connecting hdmi out from my panasonic blue-ray player to the dvd input in my yamaha rx-v365 there is not audio or video, why?

There are several video and audio inputs named DVD. For video you have HDMI, component and composite. For audio you have standard analog stereo and digital coaxial spdif input.
You need to configure the receiver to use the correct inputs - that means HDMI and coax. Also you need to connect the BD player via coax spdif cable to the receiver, because rx-v365 doesn't support audio via HDMI. If BD player has only optical output, use DTV/CABL HDMI input and DTv/CABL Optical input on the receiver.

Hi, Just bought a 26" sony bravia tv. I don't use cable or satillite. I just need to find out what kind of cable I need to connect my panasonic DVD player to the TV and which port do I plug it into?

The best quality would be a HDMI cable, if your DVD player has a HDMI port on the back.

Any of the HDMI ports on the TV can be configured to take the audio over HDMI (digital audio) or over a separate rca stereo patch cable (menu option in the TV for analog audio).

So if your DVD has HDMI, just buy a HDMI cable and you're done. If you cannot figure out how to switch the audio input, there is no big harm in just installing a separate RCA patch cable between the two for the sound.

The next-best would be a component-video cable (Red/Yellow/Green) RCA cable, with a separate red/white RCA audio cable.

Alternately, if your DVD has a S-video port, that is comparable to component video. Then you would need a separate audio cable as well.

Last but not least, if your DVD player is ancient, it may only have a yellow video out connection, then red/white for audio. You then just need a standard yellow/red/white RCA component cable.
