Amana ALW780QAW Top load Washer is leaking around bearing area. Typically, is the bearing the only part to be replaced? and how is the actuator attached? it is plastic, is it held by a screw or does it just lift off?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that replacing the bearing should solve the issue however, you can also check the pulley and the brake pads. I dont think they should be bad as if they are bad washer should be making some noise but still would recommend you to check them. Also check this diagram for more information:

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

My Amana washer makes load noises during wash cycle, what could cause that?

transmission bearings are the problem and transmission needs to be replace in order to fix the problem, in some cases some people chenge only the bearings but is better to replace the transmission at once.

Noise in the spin mode on a Amana LWA50AW top load washer

Based on your description, it sounds as if your outer spin bearing is faulty. See link below for an illustration of the bearing. Special tools are required to replace this item.

Loud and leaky

Tub bearing replacement on ANY Amana (Maytag) can be difficult. Even for experienced technicians, it can take 1 to 2 hours as long as there are no surprises (corrosion, stubborn bolt etc). Also, all Maytag washers require specialized tools for removing certain components of the machine.

Amana Top Load Washer model# LW3502W Washer leaks water somewhere between wash & rinse cycle best I can tell...drain hose checks out fine. At beginning of wash cycle the first minute or two of agitation...

Sounds like the water seal is damaged and the leaking water has damaged the top bearing which is just below the water seal. You will need to have the hub & seal kit replaced.
