Our refrigerator had started making "knocking" sounds around October/November. It mostly happened in the evening around the same time so we thought perhaps it was a cyclical thing. Lately it's been occurring more frequently and much louder than before. The sound usually lasts for less than a minute. It literally sounds like someone is banging on a pipe inside the freezer section. Any thoughts? We've had this fridge since May 2007 so it's not very old. We've had repair men come to look at it but we're not really satisfied with their answers.
The compressor could be a little lose from shipment from factory, to warehouse, to your home. If the bushings are lose, when the compressor kicks on, it can cause a jarring or vibration in the system lines. Disconnect the power from the wall before you attempt to touch the compressor and see if there is any play in the mounting bushings for the compressor.

I have a Samsung American style fridge freezer (not sure of model no. at the moment) that is making a single loud knock occasionally. It was bought in June last year.
ge profile frenchdoor...knock...knock...knock...knock...up to 20 knocking sounds come from the icemaker located in top left side of refrigerator section everty few hours. It is only a month old and we are getting ready to call Ge and have them send their service tech out, but from past bad experience with ice makers on last two refrigerators I don't know what to expect!!!
