1. upgrade the win vista to win 7 - you need to check the type of win vista that you have if it is 32 or 64 bit or HOME BASIC HOME PREMIUM PROFESSIONAL ULTIMATE
home basic is not win 7 upgrade supported.

2. Win 7 OS full version disk.

If you want screen savers and many more then you have to buy Windows 7 ultimate edition.

I am not able to save any file on desktop.

There is size restrictions for users in vista.... i think this is one such crappy problem in vista since it is the administrator... i have seen settings to change this size restriction in control panel...
