How do I remove the little gray plastic clutch wheel so I can replace it? It sits on top of the drive shaft and its teeth fit into the bottom of the blade assembly to turn it.
These little jewels are threaded onto the motor shaft so they tighten up when in operation. To remove, you will have to immobilize the motor shaft. See if you can insert an icepick or screwdriver into the blades of the motor fan on the bottom. Then using a punch and hammer, gently tap the clutch disk in the direction opposite from its normal rotation.
BE CAREFUL not to use so much force that you break either the clutch disk or the motor fan blade.
Thanks to the above information, i was able to fix it. I bored out the hole at the bottom so i could insert a small screwdriver. I then grabbed the rubber drive gear turning it counter clockwise white putting pressure on the motor flywheel with the screwdriver from the newly bored hole. It took some muscle but the gear spun off.
Yep, that worked -- on my Krups GMA1, I used a fat drill bit in the center hole on the bottom, off-axis slightly until it caught the motor. Then I used a pair of pliers to unscrew the drive gear. Funny, Krups sells the spare part but says nothing to the consumer about how to actually replace the part!

Mine is a krups too that I bought a 'spare' driver gear for. On the 239 there seems not to be anywhere I can poke something in to imobilize anything without breaking something else...I'll try the given solution but...
Don't know how to get the grey rubber gear off to replace it with a new one.
HELP
My blade did not turn and in trying to fix it the gears between the motor and blade handle became striped. Now the motor no longer turns the blade shaft. Can that gear piece be replaced? Then like the other questions, how do I take it apart to change it?

Maybe this tip will help somebody -- By removing the little rubber feet on the bottom of the unit you can remove the screws recessed in there, and that will release the housing so you can remove it. Then you can see that the bottom of the drive shaft has a slot so you can hold it in place with a screwdriver.
However, the gray clutch wheel on top of the shaft is on so tight that I still cannot get it off. It's made of rubber/plastic so am cautious about putting too much pressure on it because if it breaks then I'm really out of order. Have others been successful in getting the clutch wheel off without tearing it up?
I called the Vita-Mix company. I told them the clutch part that sits on top of the Vita-Mix motor broke off. Luckly it was still under warranty. They sent me a replacement piece but didnt show how to install it. I dont know wether I am so suppose to hit with a rubber mallet to make it go back in the motor shaft. The way you take the piece off is unscrewing the screw with a small allen wrench. Then grab 2 flat head screw drivers from opposite ends and pop off the piece.
the shaft that holds the blades broke.
