It would help to know where is was leaking and what you "messed with"?
But in general, the idea is to replace the washers.
To do that, first turn off the water under the sink.
Then you first remove the handle on the leaking side.
There is often a small metal or plastic cover over a phillips screw.
Then remove the metal cap around the handle stem by unthreading or lifting up.
Then you can remove the valve by turning it as if to make the water go on.
It will have a washer on the bottom, held on with a screw.
Remove the screw, get a new washer, and then replace.
