Remove the battery and plug the ac adaptor in check wethere the light on the port where you connect the ac adaptor glows or not, if no then check the wethere the ac adaptor is getting warm or not after you plug it in for few minutes if not then ac adaptor has to be replaced.
If the light on the port is glowing then it is likely that the power supply of the notebook has gone bad as it is not able to switch to ac adaptor or the port where you connect the ac adaptor to the notebook has a short circut when the acadaptor pin is connected , better try with a different ac adaptor to be sure wethere the issue is with ac adaptor or the notebook.
My best wishes

You most likely have a short in the AC adapter and I would replace it right away. I have had my dv 7 for a little over a year and had to replace mine 3 times so far.

DV7 did not working from fully gharged battery

Hello. There is a hardware failure with the laptop not the AC charger. AC chargers have some range of protections of their own. If the power requirements of the laptop are bigger then what the charger can handle, the charger will turn off. Also other parameters can bring the charger offline. In your case, you have a problem with a small chip, the battery charge controller unit, which regulates the amount of current required to propperly charge the battery. When this thing fails, the charging requirements for the battery are reported rong and the AC charger is forced to give more power then necesary. This results in disconnection of the AC charger ( an internal fail safe of the
AC charger) and the laptop to swich back to battery power. When the laptop is turned off, it can charge the battery because the power requirements are low, having all processor, main board, hard disk etc turned off. Therefore the AC charger can handle the load. However you will need to have it checked by a service center as it is a hardware fault. Both AC charger and laptop needs that check.
The charge controll circuit needs to be replaced probably. It will be a somewhat expensive repair. Don't buy any other battery untill you have the laptop checked.

HP dv7-1448 not powering up, even when plugged in

Try this:

1. Unplug the machine and remove the battery.
2. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds with the battery out and unplugged.
3. Replace the battery and plug it back in.
4. Try and power it up.
5. If it doesn't work, there is the potential that the battery is dead and the AC adapter may be broken. This would prevent the battery from being charged and it wouldn't work when it was plugged into the wall, so try and borrow an adapter from the same laptop to test this.
6. Hopefully something worked, because if it didn't, the laptop may bed dead. Hope this helps!

My laptop will not charge when the charger is plugged in. I tried removing the battery and turning it on while it was plugged in. Is my computer messed up or is it just the charger. Also my warranty has...

Your laptop still not charge even with the battery removed?
I guess you need a new adapter. Or you can test with a known working adapter first.
Specification of HP pavilion DV7 charger:
Output: DC19V 4.74A
DC Connecter (Barrel) size:
Internal Diameter: 5.0mm
External Diameter: 7.4mm
With central smart-pin inside

is it hotter on the left more than middle? if so, fan most likely going out, but it sounds more like it may be a faulty dc jack or battery. Does it do the same thing with the battery out? if so, dc jack, if not, then battery

My HP dv7 laptop wont turn on I purchased a new battery and a new cord it worked for an hour then shut off again!!!!!!!!!!

Your DC connector is loose from the system board:

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it's still under warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you.

HP dv7 simply stopped turning on. worked great

What you would want to try is to remove the battery and see if pluging in the power cord will power the laptop alone. All laptops have this capability and this shouldnt be an issue.

But by testing this and seeing if it DOESN'T work then that means there could be one of two things. Your AC power adapter is defective and should be replaced with one that is compatible with your system or that your connection jack is either loose on the inside or broken completely.

However I would stick with trying the cord first before trying to resoder the joint inside the system. I'd leave that to a pro, going back to the battery if you leave it out for a day that should give it plenty of time to discharge any energy it may have in it and you can plug it back into the laptop to try and charge it again either with the same AC power adapter or a new one. If the battery wont hold a charge and you know it isn't because the jack is loose or the AC power adapter isnt defective then you now know you need to replace the battery. You can google compatible batteries and power adapters online or search specific places like Newegg.com or Amazon.

Hope this gives you a better understanding of what may need to be done to fix this!!
