Can you help my fridge freezer has stopped working the fridge compartment is fine, while the freezer has defrosted. Its an american style fridge which dispences ice and water. The model number is GR-L206CPQA (LG). I have reset the freezer and it sounds as if working but its not no ice has been made and the freezer is warm. The temprature gage is on max.

Any ideas?

LG 462 fridge. The fridge compartment started freezing food, then the fridge temperature control light stopped working, then the fridge became too warm. A tech came out, looked at the freezer defrost, which was ice-covered, and said that 'probably the circuit board is cactus, and would cost $400-500 to replace.

Defrost the unit for two days with the doors open...I know you're going to lose your contents. You may have ice on the coils internally. Next make sure you've cleaned the external coils under the unit. Leaving liquids open inside the unit or setting it colder than required will both cause issues like the ones you've got. Also, be sure all air vents inside the unit are unblocked and the door closes tightly all around.

Fridge compartment keeps freezing

Brett Duxbury gives a great answer!

Hi Shane kelly, I would look at whether freezer is defrosting or is ice building up behind the fridge panel at the back and then freezing your fridge compartment.
It takes like 2 days for the ice to melt if this is the case.
Then freezer will work for a while and then when defrost is missed it builds up the ice again.
If this is what is causing problem it could be a transducer fault in the freezer that detect ice or a timer fault in the defrost circuitry.

Andrew writes

Also check the evaporator circulating fan inside the freezer. The defrost timer and ice build up is also my other suggestion. The evaporator becomes a solid block of ice and doesn't pass air.

Electrolux american fridge freezer cooling problem

There is a defrost timer on the unit. It is supposed to come on and melt the ice that forms on the coils in the evaporator. IF you get a lot of ice built up or something is wrong with the timer, it wont melt the ice or it wont come back on to cool the unit.

Not getting cold.but freezer is working fine

i am guessing you have a fost free unit. the way cold air gets to the fridge compartment is through a network of vents running from the freezer compartment if the fridge stops going into defrost then those vents build up with ice and stop the flow of cold air into the fridge compartment. so the fault is unit not going into defrost in 99% of cases its due to a blown defrost element in slight cases it can be the small fan in the freezer has stoped working so first check the fan is working. then just as you would test a fuse test the defrost element / s the element looks either like an electric stove element grey in color or a glass silinder however there located behind the thin plastic wall at the back of the freezer the least and last fault to cause this is a burnt out defrost timer if the fan is working test element if it/they are fine replace the defrost timer

hope this helps
best of luck for more help feel free to email

Zanussi fridge compartment has stopped cooling but freezer is ok

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp .

OR.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

LG LFC25760 not working

This error appears when the fridge goes into defrost mode (after a few hours of initial startup and therefore a sign that your PCB is probably just fine). Look into the thermostor in the freezer compartment (mine was bad, a $2 part from Radio Shack), the defrost heating element or the temperature sensor in the freezer compartment.

Top half fridge not cold freezer department fine

I had the same problem; the top fridge compartment was warming up to 14C while the freezer compartment was starting to defrost (frozen stuff was starting to become soft. I took the rear wall off the freezer compartment and found it all iced up. I defrosted it with a blower heater then powered it back up. It all worked fine for a month when the same thing happened. I figured that the defrost cycle wasn't working. I located the defrost timer on the rear right-side of the fridge. I rotated it several times and found that the fridge was turning on and off. I rotated it until the fridge turned off. I waited 5 minutes then stuck my head into the freezer compartment and felt the rear wall at the bottom where he drain is; it felt warm so I guessed the defrost heater element was ok. I ordered a defrost timer and installed it. I haven't had a problem since.
