My old 40 gig ps3 died, so we bought an 80 gig, but when 40 gig hdd is inserted in place of 80 gig hdd, it wont accept the hdd, and i had 9 months worth of saved games on 40 gig hdd. how do i get game...

Unfortunetly the HDD's can't be swapped like that. The only way to get the old stuff is to some how get the 40gb working so you can back up your system. Tell me what happend to the 40 and I might be able to help you get it up long enough to back it up so you can get all your stuff transfered. Another way is if you can get the 40gb machine to work the PS3 has a mode to hook a CAT5 cable from the new to the old and transfer that way.

A little more on the HDD swap. The HDD's are machine spacific and can only be recognized by the machine they were in and any other PS3 you try to put them in won't recognize the device without a format will saddly enough wipe the drive clean.

Let me know what's wrong with the 40 and I will see if I can help getting it back up so you can get your saved stuff off of it.

Why can't my Toshiba ext hdd accept files more than 4GB? those files are .mkv formats. thanks!

The Toshiba is formatted with the 'FAT32' file-system, which is limited to 4GB per file.
Your 'C:' disk-drive is formatted with the 'NTFS' file-system, which has a much-larger limit.

So, use the 'DISKPART' command-line utility to "convert" the Toshiba from FAT32 to NTFS.
DISKPART is easy to use, but be careful to use it correctly.

2 x 500Gb HDD's no longer recognised. IDE not SATA. They were recognised until 3 days ago. I swapped one for my 85Gb HDD that contained my operating system (XP) and neither has been recognised since. 80Gb...

Good day!

Did you try to use another IDE cables? If not, please find some IDEs there and try it.You can also use another PC and try the said HDD just to recognize it.or try to swap it in the IDE1. See if its work.

Toshiba 500 GB External Hard drive cant be detected by windows xp

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

How do I format my WD MyBook Elite to FAT32

Using FAT32 these days on a current OS will half the
HDD storing capabilities especially if your unit uses'
a SATA HDD , FAT32 speed compared to NTFS is
less than half and the compression tool on NTFS
are more compact and compile better , also FAT32
is used to apply an operating system not for external
storage and if you are using your external storage HDD for holding an operating system to the HDD
will be suspectable to contracting viruses and
putting your data at risk , since the external HDD
is static and does not run through the OS registry

My 500GB Mybook world edition's mother board died.

It's the format that doesn't allow windows to access the data. Only way to recover is to get another external drive and transfer the data to it. Then you could reformatt the old drive to work with XP. Hope this helps.
