Celestron advanced gt declination motor does not working

Celestron advanced gt declination does not move the telescope. I hear the motor running but the telescope does not move.

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2010

I took the advice and took apart the mount. It went very smoothly and the fix was just tighting things up a little, cleaning and re-greasing. I took it out last night and it worked better then ever. Thanks!

You did tighten the clutches?

If you did the DEC gears are either loose and not meshing or have broken.

Dr. Clay in Arkansas can repair this scope but it would cost several hundred dollars-- Celestron will probably sell you the parts to fix it. Here is their web site. You can also return the mount to them for repair.

To show you whats inside without the electronics look at this web site--

Many owners of your mount have done repairs using the pictures here-- they DO NOT show the plastic boxes holding the RA gears or the electronic boards.

    Glad you fixed it!

Cg5 gt dec motor broken

Can you hear the motor running even though the axis does not move? If it is, then all that is possibly needed is to realign the motor on its mounting with the driven gear of the axis. This situation is not uncommon in the CG5. Here is a site with a lot of links and information

http://www.astronomyboy.com/cg5/

If the motor is not running at all, it may be the motor has failed, or more likely, the motor controller circuit board has failed. There is a lot of stuff on the Net about that and it seems spare parts are getting hard to find. In that case you may have to return it to a Celestron dealer.

The problem has also arisen before here on Fixya, so you could examine those posts as well

Where is the declination clutch located?

RA moves the polar axis--- and DEC moves the scope from side to side.

There are two knobs that turn these two axis.

C10-NGT RA+DEC clamps and the motors

Holy man.. response is kinda slow. Good thing I tried it myself.

Sure as heck, you can leave the Right Ascension and Declination clamps tight while using the motors!
It makes a lot of sense, and many things much easier....
Thanks for the.. reply? lol. Just joking.
