Make sure you didn't knock off a wire to the heating element when you had it open. Also put a couple of cups of whitevinnegar in it and leave it for an hour or two. This will dissolve the scale build up. If it doesn't get hot thenthe element is probably burned out. There is a limit switch held against the tank too. It can stop the heating element if it goes bad.
Someone else had this fix and it worked for me: (yay!) *Remove water tank and collapse the hanger bar. *Remove two screws at base of hose and work the hose off. It will come out. *Unplug unit and hold over your kitchen sink with the hose inlet pointing into the sink. * use your kitchen sink sprayer to forcefully spray water into this hole and it will come back out again releasing the gunk that has been stopping up the unit. * for good measure, I also used the sink sprayer to flush out the hose. Put everything back together. And make sure it is dry before you plug it in. VOILA!!! WORKS GOOD AS NEW. HAPPINESS!

The steamer usually comes with a smallish padded square with a strap that slips over your hand. (If you so not have one of these, cut out a square from some stiff cardboard, pad it using cotton batting, and cover it with a heavy, smooth, waterproof or water-resistant material.)
Make sure it is steaming nicely before you use it. You check by pulling the little trigger on the handle, and seeing how much steam issues when you release it. You actually want to use this while steaming as well, in order to release more steam when needed.
Hang the garment, and slip the padded square over one hand.
Place the hand with the square on the underside of the garment, and use it to keep the fabric smooth while you steam it.
Use the steamer by holding the nozzle close to the garment, and pulling both it and the padded square in downwards strokes.
If the steamer starts making a "gurgling" noise, like its running out of steam, hold the hose straight up for several seconds. It says to do this in the manual and gets the steam flowing again--works great!
If you need instructions go to www.HandBookLive.com. There are videos for GS4 and GS10 under Appliances category. It says that steam is produced in about 5-6 minutes after you turn power on. Also there is a low water indicator light on GS10 that kills power to teh unit if the water level is low. Maybe that's the problem... Not sure if sc20 is similar
