Thank you for responding. It appears the washer will not agitate either. I turned the washer on the side and viewed the motor while my wife attempted to engage the the spin cycle. The small post at the end of the motor will only move slightly while there is a lound grinding or clicking noise apparently coming from the motor.

Thank you so much. The washer is a Kenmore Elite, model #110. 22932100, SN# CL 4137690.

I have the same issue with a similar machine:

    Kenmore 80 Series, Type 111

    Mod: 110 24862300

    SN: CP 5145884

Since I am a driven single mom, I want to save some money and fix this myself. Is it difficult? Do I need the same part number? Can you send the repair instructions to me also?

    email: [email protected]

    Thanks!

I have had a similar issue with my washer. I was a newer dryer too so I didn't have the money to just go buy a new one. I had a repair service come out and take care of it for me. http://www.a1applianceky.com/services

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

Washer is loud, and won't spin or agitate

check the motor bushes, and also check for bearings in drum you can check this by lifting the inner drum up and down if you feel a knocking noise then this will be the bearings have worn.

WHDRR418G1WW WASHER WON'T AGITATE OR SPIN, NOT MAKING NOISES. FILLS AND DRAINS FINE.

sounds like you have a broken lid switch on the washer, maybe someone slammed the door or placed or stood on top of the washer, a broken lid switch won't allow washer to go into spin mode is a safety device so if is on spin cycle an someone sticks their hand it the machine stops an not breaks your hand.

broken lid swtich

good luck leave some feedback thanks!

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.
