My PE120 scanner puts a vertical black line on the image, but only when a document is scanned from the ADF. When scanned from the main glass, the image is clear. The ADF small scanner glass has been cleaned on both sides. The scanner CCD assembly has been blown out with air.
What is different about the scanner function when using the ADF? The service manual is completely silent on this issue.
Thanks
Try to adjust shading from scanner
For all ADF scanners there are two glasses area one for a4 size u can use it for manual scanning or copying the other glass area is beside the a4 one and it small like a ruler 20x2 cm this area for ADF scanning if there is small dust on this area it will make a line on output. so clean this area and it will solve your problem.
Thanks
Your scanner’s lock switch may be locking up the carriage unit. Depending on the model you own, your scanner’s lock switch resides in one of two locations. You can find it beneath the scanner itself or in a corner next to the scanner bed after you lift the lid. The switch should be marked with a locked and unlocked padlock symbol; slide the switch to the unlocked padlock to unlock the carriage unit.
It’s also possible that the supplied USB cable is improperly connected to your computer. Connect the cable directly to your PC. Canon’s online documentation indicates that scanners that connect via a USB hub may not work properly. Once you have unlocked your scanner and properly connected it directly to your computer, try to rescan the image.
This article provides the self-diagnostic
steps necessary to evaluate top-to-bottom streaks that appear when
copying or scanning.
Important! This is seldom a scanner hardware failure.
The main reason for this anomaly is debris or marks on the scanner glass that is used for Auto document feeder (ADF) page scans.

The carriage works fine since it can scan the main glass. It is not locked. The ADF scan also works fine except for a verticale line about 1 pixel wide that is added to the image. The same fault happens in copy mode as well as PC scan mode. I think this eliminates USB issues.
Any other thoughts before I replace the CCD module?
The single vertical line is in exactly the same place when copying or scanning with the ADF. It disappears when scanning or copying a single sheet on the glass.
