Hi, I am considering to buy a second hand Yamaha HTR 5540 AV receier. But not sure whether it will match with my Lux Audio surround speaker system. Can I run 5x80W (4ohms) speakers with Yamaha HTR 5540? I have seen in the specification that this receiver has a impedance selector switch to change speaker impedance between 4 to 8 ohms. The surround speaker set comes with a powered sub of 200W (6 ohms). Can somebody please help. thanks, Jahed

Try changing surround modes - the center channel is not used in all modes. If that doesn;t work, check your speaker settingsw and make sure the center channel is not turned off
The signal that comes from most tv's via the optical output is a stereo signal only. That is what your receiver is reading. You would have to manually set your receiver to decode the signal into surround,.
Try running digital audio from the source - cable/sat - to the receiver. The fewer intervening connections and entities, the better. TV's are NOT considered sound sources for high end purposes or we wouldn't have Yamaha HTR-5860's and better speakers, would we?
Yes - just go to electronics store and buy a 3.5 to 2 RCA lead and plug the 3.5 plug into your IPOD and the RCA plugs into the Aux sockets on your Yamaha. Job done
configure ur PC (both OS audio and third party sound driver) for surround sounds. control panel- sounds and audio devices - speaker settings - advanced - speker settings. so this done. make sure u select the 6 input channel - the button is on the right edge near the volume knob. near the vol button there are two buttons for selecting input type with up down arrow. from that u can select the input type this will be indicated on the top front indicator. but with the 6 input channel selected all selections are preceeded. if u select stereo mode u will have left/ right audio only. make sure u connect the input right. connect from computer to 6 channel input. main, surround, center and sub-woofer. connect the spekers to main (L/R), rear(surround) (L/R), center and sub woofer to terminal marked sub woofer ouput. this done select like i said before the 6 channel button. that should do it.
Model number of the Lux? The only unknown to me regarding the answer is if the Lux speakers are designed for non-Lux attachment. If there are molded connectors on their leads I would be cautious as that is usually the manufacturer's subltlke clue that you really don't want toi mix them with other makers. If they're bare wire I think you're ok.
The impedance selector on the receiver supports minimum 4-ohm front and 6-ohm center and rear, so you'd be marginal on those last two, but barring excessive high volumes I'd think it would work. The powered sub is supported and its impedance spec is irrelevant.
Just curious, is this an upgrade in electronics? From what?
