Problem with Incoming Calls

The user tells me that she can call out but incoming calls do not work. She said that when she answers, all she gets is ATHO and if she touches the keyboard, it just types real fast all kinds of letters. She said that some people tell her that when Texas Relay asks for her telephone number, they tell her it is a wrong number. (I have id'd the phone and the number is correct-512-936-9604).

This is pretty much word for word from the user.

It is a Dialogue III.

Can you advise on how to troubleshoot this problem?

Yes their is an internal error. she needs to take the phone back where she purchased it. unfortunatly to solve the problem itself one most unlock the phone and fix the buggs in the programming... this is verry hard and requires tramendous skill... It is recomended that you find a new phone or a really talented asian such as myself who can fix the issue onsite with the phone

Remove the ringing from incoming calls on a norstar. I have multiple extensions in the building but want the incoming calls only to ring to a few extensions

You need administrative rights to get into the PBX. Once in there, you can assign which phones receive incoming calls. It has been years since I worked on the meridian system, so I can't tell you the way to do it, but it is in the manual. It's not complicated. You can also set it up for DAY/NIGHT mode so that in the evening, if required, all phones could ring on incoming calls so that anyone in the building can answer them.

What is answer mode?

The answer mode determines whether the HP Fax answers incoming calls or not.

Different answer modes are :

* Fax

The HP Fax will automatically answer all incoming calls using the Rings to Answer setting. This is the default setting.

* FaxTel (unit with handset model only)

The HP Fax automatically answers all incoming calls using the Rings to Answer setting. If the call is a fax call, the HP Fax will receive the fax. If the call is a voice call, the HP Fax will create a special ring to indicate it is a voice call. The incoming voice call will need to be answered using the attached handset.

NOTE: If the HP Fax determines the call is a voice call, only the HP Fax will ring with the special ring tone. The other phones on the same phone line will not ring at all. You will not be able to pick up the voice call using the other phones.

* Tel

The HP Fax will not automatically answer calls. Faxes will need to be received manually.

* AnswerMachine

The HP Fax will monitor the line when an incoming call is answered by a person or by the answering machine. If the HP Fax detects fax tones on the line, it will receive the fax.

Looks like you can group the stations together and then any one of them can answer incoming calls. See page 45 or so.
