I am not familiar with this particular lighter, however, changing flints isn't usually difficult. Could you post a photo of the underside of the lighter? Try turning the lighter upside down. There should be two sections moulded in the bottom of the lighter. One is the refill port you use to fill it with gas, the other will be the adjuster or mount for the flint. The flint holder is usually a Spring loaded tube with the flint mounted at the top end. Carefully unwind the screw or twist cap being careful the spring doesn't suddenly release. This should slide out letting the remains of the old flint fall out. You may need to GENTLY tap the lighter to knock out any dust left by the old flint. Insert the new flint, insert the retaining pin and screw it in until it is finger tight. Screw too tight and you could crush the new flint or damage the screw thread on the retaining pin.
I am going to guess that you are talking about a Cartier cigarette lighter.
This is a photo of mine.
I use Zippo butane, but any high quality butane is acceptable.
It is easy to find an adapter to fit the nozzle on the bottom.
Be certain the lighter is upside down, with the bottom of the lighter facing up, and the butane is being pressed down into the lighter, so the butane nozzle is pointing straight down.
The lighter will get cold as it fills with butane.
A burst of 5 seconds should be sufficient

I am looking at my Weller Portasol P-1k unit right now. They use standard flints. Go to almost ANY store you can think of and they sell lighter fluid and flints (usually sold in a pack of 5). About a buck or two.
I.ve got a lighter its silver crome alluminum it reads on both sides a big X with a c on top and us on bottom its butane on the bottom it has a signiture I.D it looks like a snake going up a stick can you help me idenify this lighter it's driving me nuts Thank You Lily
Hi. Get a piece of very fine wire, hardware store is a good source, and run it into the nozzle. Chances are that the nozzle is clogged. Once it is hissing again it will ignite unless you also need a new flint. J.
The reservoir tank can be the bane of existence for a Cartier lighter owner. Unlike most butane lighters which have gas tanks integral to the lighter, Cartier utilizes a user removable tank. Cartier only warrants the tank for two years. I've also seen tanks that say 12 months. New Cartiers come with one spare tank. I've seen spare tanks come up on eBay from time to time, for $30 - $50. If not, picking up a beat-up Cartier on the cheap just to remove and use its tank is an idea. Cartier does not sell spare parts of any kind (other than flints), so if your lighter needs a new tank they will probably insist you get a complete maintenance service, which can cost up to $300.
Do not refill your lighter immediately after using it. You should allow enough time for the lighter to cool off.
The flame height adjuster on the bottom of the lighter should be set to minimum by turning CLOCKWISE with a small screw driver. The smaller, usually Phillips head, screw is for dismantling the lighter and should not be touched. The adjusting screw is a larger screw with a standard (slot) head. Some lighters come with a key to turn the adjusting screw. Some models have an adjusting wheel that requires no screwdriver. Please DO NOT FORCE the adjusting screw. If it is hard to turn in one direction this most likely means that the adjustment screw is already at the (-) or (+) limit. Try turning the other direction.
Push the refilling valve with a screwdriver to let out the air inside until no hissing sound is heard. Hold the lighter away from your face. Air inside the fuel tank prevents butane gas from being injected into the tank and causes the lighter to malfunction.
ALWAYS refill the lighter in an upside down position to avoid injecting air into the lighter.
Shake the butane gas refill can, press the stem of the refill can directly onto the refill valve on the bottom of the lighter. Keep them in a straight position and let the gas go into the lighter for about 5 seconds. Repeat for a shorter period if needed.
Allow 3-4 minutes to let gas and lighter components reach room temperature.
Turn the flame adjuster counter clockwise to reach the desired flame height.
Hold the lighter away from your face and body and ignite it carefully. If there is no flame, repeat the refilling process.
If you experience gas leakage with a hissing sound while refilling the lighter, either you are not holding the lighter and gas can in a straight position or the stem of the gas can is not suitable for the lighter. In this case you need to use an adaptor which is usually supplied with the gas can.
Premium butane is required to ensure optimum performance of your lighter. Lighters require the cleanest butane available at a pressure of 45 psi. Recommended using Premium Triple Refined Butane Gas that are packaged in 10-13 oz. cans with a metal fill tip nozzle. Non-premium butane with plastic fill tip nozzles are not recommended as they may cause inconsistent ignition and performance. Impurity of the gas can cause clogging of the burner valve or malfunctioning.
WARNING: PLEASE, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR LIGHTER AWAY FROM THE REACH OF CHILDREN. USE COMMON SENSE IN HANDLING YOUR LIGHTER.
Troubleshooting: If you are having problems with your lighter, make sure that:
You are holding the lighter upside down while refilling. If you did not hold the lighter upside down, there will be air inside the butane tank. You will need to let the air out and try refilling again.
The flame height is properly adjusted.
You are not using cheap or incorrect fuel.
There is no dirt or debris in the lighter. Try blowing forcefully into the top part of the unlit lighter.
Hi, Dan, I have 2 Dunhill ighters that work but they leak butane. Making them unfit for use. I would like to have them repaired/rebuilt. I believe they are 1960-70's vintage so, the lack of parts will definately be an issue here. Please advise. Thanks Glenn [email protected]
