Dell 1600n. I have to reset the printer constantly.

Dell 1600n. I have to reset the printer (turn off and on) after every function (printing, scanning, copying). Printer worked fine for over a year through a network. Yesterday, I reinstalled locally via USB and reinstalled the driver and still have the same problem. I tried to install the firmware upgrade from the website, but get an error message that printer is busy.

Do a hard reset of printer to erase all memories. Then also uninstall and reinstall the driver and see what happens. Also make sure that you are using the correct driver for your OS

SOURCE: Dell 946 AIO printer won't stop beeping after firmware update attempt

I just experienced this problem today. The beeping means that when you tried to update the firmware it damaged the printer internally. I would have to assume there is some kind of chip in there that can be flashed and it got cooked by the firmware update. Dell is sending me a new one.

SOURCE: Printer Busy

Hi,
As you have already worked with Tech support at Dell, they may have exploited all the options but do try the following steps and tell me if that worked
1. DIsconnect you printer from the computer

  1. Press the down arrow button until Maintenance is highlighted and press the Select button.

  2. Press the down arrow button until Reset Defaults is hightlighted and press the Select button.

  3. The printer displays a confirmation message. Highlight Yes and press the Select button
This would reset your printer to factory defaults.

2. Unistall the drivers using the following file
R166225 .zip from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=9913&libid=40&releaseid=R166225&vercnt=1&formatcnt=0&SystemID=PRN_PHT_964&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1
-> Save the file to desktop
->Double click to extract the file and see where the file is being extracted.
-> Go to extracted file folder ,right click on the file named setup and left click on run as adminstrator.
-> Follow on screen instructions and it would uinstall the printer

3. Restart your computer.
4. Install the drivers back on to the computer using the printer cd. Note :connect the printer only when prompted on the screen.

Once the printer has been installed , we need to update the printer aswell .

5. Download the printer firmware from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R114639&SystemID=PRN_PHT_964&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=9913&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=40&fileid=151153

6. Follow on screen instructions to install the same
7. Check if the printer works after this , otherwise its time for a new one.

Thanks
Mandeep

Do let me know , if the information above was of any help. by rating me for the same.

SOURCE: Corrupt Dell 2130cn laser printer

Apparently the controller board needs to be replace.
Dell has agreed to do this, despite that the service period has expired.

Where do I find the "clean drum" function on my Dell 1600n laser printer?

You should never use alcohol when cleaning this printer. If you need a solvent, use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water. A dry lint- free cloth is better for cleaning most parts of the printer. The Clean Drum function on the Dell 1600n is accessed from the Maintenance sub-menu. You need to press Menu on the printer repeatedly until you see Maintenance on the top line of the Display. Clean Drum should be displayed on the bottom line. Press Select twice to start the cleaning. You may need to repeat this operation several times if you see that the printed page is still streaky.

I hope this helps.

I have a dell 1600n printer. Though it prints but the copier is not functioning. The copier light does not come up. It brings a command, "Unlock scanner, then press cancel"

1) Remove the label completely from the scanner module by gently pulling it. The scan unlock switch automatically moves FORWARD to the unlock position.
2) NOTE: When you are moving the multi-function printer or do not intend to use it for a long period of time, move the switch BACKWARD to the lock position. To scan or copy a document, the switch must be unlocked.
Please see page 4 of the owners manual for more details. Here's a link in case you've lost yours:

I hope this response helps you out.

Copier function prints faintly

Usually the setting that causes that is when you have the toner save function turned on. It saves toner by making lighter prints.

I have Dell 1600n and run Windows Vista 32-bit. Whenever I print, I have to manually clear the print que. How do I have the print que automatically cleared after every print?

Go to the printer properties and untick print que and select print directly t o printer option.Alternatively download the rpcs drivers instead.

Prints faint copies

If the print rubs off the page, this means the toner is not being fused to the page. Fused......this is done by the fuser. This would have nothing to do with light print.

The dell (1600n and 1815n /1815dn) printer drivers has a toner saver mode, which can contribute to light print.

To turn Toner Save Mode off, (Windows XP) perform the following steps:
  1. Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Printer and Faxes.
The Printers and Faxes window appears.
  2. Right-click Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn, and left-click Printing Preferences.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Printing Preferences window appears.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Advanced Options window appears.
  4. Click to highlight Toner Save.
  5. Click the drop-down list and change it to Off and click OK.
  6. Click OK.
One thing that you mentioned in your post "it takes the printer forever to warm up". The fuser does have to reach operational temperature in order for it to fuse the toner to the page. So it is possible that you are having fuser problems, because of the time it is taking for it to warm up. Another thing that can contribute to the warm up time is not plugging the laser printer directly into a wall outlet. This would be true for any laser printer, not just a Dell laser printer. The low voltage power supply is what works the fuser, along with sensors and other motors in the printer.

Replacing the fuser and or the low voltage power supply in this model of printer is not an easy task. If using a Dell branded toner cartridge and checking the toner saver mode does not fix the issue. Then you would be looking at more expense then the machine would possibly be worth.

1600n Printing an Extra Page everytime...

I had a computer experiencing the same problem.
I found under the printer properties that there was 2 drivers listed; both say "Dell Laser MFP 1600n PCL 6"
I swtiched the settings from one to the other.
The Printing Preferences also show more options.

  • Open the Printer(Control Panel->Printers>Dell MFP 1600n)
  • On the menu at the top click Printer->Properties
  • Click the tab at the top Labeled Advanced
  • Change the driver and Click Apply
This should fix your problem.

"Toner Low" message = no faxes :(

Need to do a hard reset. Contact Dell for instructions, but it will involve turning printer off, opening front cover, pushing buttons on front panel in certain sequence, etc. Each model differs, which is why you should call Dell.
