Amana bottom freezer model #BX21TW purchased in 1996

Our refrigerator is freezing items in the vegetable crisper, meat keeper, and back of the fridge. We have tried to adjust air flow and set the unit at its lowest level. What is causing this?

i have also been frustrated, as i have lost many veggies to freezing. basically i don't use these drawers for anything other than juice boxes and candies anymore and i put my veggies up top, but then they aren't protected the way i intended them to be when i bought the darn fridge.

This particualr refrig is notorious for this. check your controls ( your freezer control as well set to 4 max) any higher and the refrig is running longer, generating more cold then needed, behind the left hand crisper is a few slots( the fresh air return) by default the coldest spot in refrig, i usuallly would reccomend to my cust not to keep high water or thin walled vegies in there such as carrots cukes tom and lettuce, perfect beer and fresh /frozen defrosting meat to be though, if you ever looked at the newest bottom freezers they've pushed up the drawers and added a deli pantry, running the width of frig

There is an opening at the back of the refrigerator that lets cold air into the meat drawer. Make sure the rubber boot on the meat drawer seals against the back of the fridge. If this doesn't help cover the hole with duct tape. You may need to readjust the thermostat.

Amana fridge model number Arb1914cw is not cooling. Freezer is working fine

Bottom freezer fridges are especially susceptible to
  1. Dust build up on the condenser coil that impedes heat transfer to the outside from inside the box
    • Remove the (bottom) footplate by grasping outside edges and pulling/levering out and popping it free.
    • Use vac crevice attachment and coil brush to clean away all dust from the coil and foot plate.
    • Replace plate and allow 24 hours for inside temp to stabilize.
    • Adjust top temp setting if needed to maintain safe temp level.
    • Repeat semianually or annually as scheduled maintenance--depending on the dustiness is fridge's location.
  2. Airflow blockage through the crispers and meat keepers.
    • Remove crispers and meat keeper as well as glass cover shelf.
    • Find cooling passages between crispers and at midline of meat keeper.
    • Remove any buildup of air blocking debris.
    • Wipe up fridge box floor beneath meat keeper.
    • Reinstall glass shelf, meat keeper, and crispers.
    • Check perodically for poor temperature/moisture keeping in crispers and for water pooling on fridge box floor as signs of blocked air flow through criispers and meat keepers.

Crisper drawers are feezing vegetables.

look down at the bottom crisper and there should be an air control that lets more or less air in from the freezer section. close this control down so that most of the air stays in the freezer. some models may say meats(colder) and vegetables(warmer).

some models the control in the down position opens up the vent more allowing it to get colder and in the up position closes the vent down more allowing less cold air into the refrigerator. you can remove the crisper and experiment with the control.

Top of my ref. freezes items in the vegetable keeper plus on the bottom shelf if placed to far to the back

If your model is the ABB1927DE between the freezer compartment and refrigerator compartment there is something called a Air damper control assembly. Sometimes they just get stuck open but other times the the power that changes the damper opening or closing. If you could ask for freezer colder and fresh food compartment warmer on the controls and nothing changes then it is a toss up between the control board inside the fresh food compartment and the Air damper control assembly. I will give you some time to see what I am talking about with photos and illustration's. I will return soon, Thanks,Sea Breeze

I purchased a bottom freezer Amana refrigerator when we built our house in 1999. The produce in the vegetable drawer keeps freezing! Everything else in the fridge is fine. Why does this happen?

Usually on bottom freezer fridges, there are two vents at the bottom of the freezer compartment where the cold air goes back into the freezer (cold air enters the fridge through the vent at the top/back of the fridge.)

If the vents at the back of the fridge are covered, the cold air will settle to the bottom of the fridge after it enters, and freeze your vegetables. The problem could be caused by ice build up in the evaporator coil of the freezer section also, but this will probably warrant a checkup from a pro.

One thing that can cause ice to build up inside those vents is moist air seeping in through a faulty door gasket. A thin coat of ordinary Vaseline on the gasket surface can help it make a better seal.

Vegetables keep freezing in the fridge crispers

You have to heat the coil in the back of the fridge. Take everything out and open up the back, then take a hair dryer and heat the coil. After doing this, adjust the heat settings on the freezer.

Water is not cooling

Hi: This Wide by side is like all other side by sides as to how it stores the water. Storage will be behind the crisper or meat keeper in the form of a coil of tubing or a bladder to store the water. Pretty simple. The length of tubing running from the storage to the dispenser will not be chilled. Some refrigerators do this better than others. Try setting the ref. or meat keeper a little colder. Watch your vegetables so they don't freeze. Rare, but it's possible... Older homes (before dispensers,) when fridges just had ice makers, would tap into the hot water line for ice to freeze faster and be clearer. I know this sounds crazy but it's true. I lived in an older home and in the winter the hot water would always freeze first. I know this solution sounds lame but there really is nothing much to go wrong with the water chilling. Pull your meat keeper out and look at the reservoir and see how cold it is. Good luck, Jeff

Amana Bx22s5W freezes food in the crispers

I've had the same issue with an Amana BX21TL. In my case, the problem was that the various air flow adjustments were all directing the cold air to the bottom of the fridge, underneath the vegetable crispers.

What I've done to fix this was:
1- Made sure there was a tight seal between the vent opening at the back of the fridge (at about mid-height) and the rubber/plastic duct that directs air to the meat/cheese drawer.
2- Made sure that the adjustable opening at the back of the meat/cheese drawer was fully open.
3- Made sure that the adjustable opening at the back of both vegetable crispers were fully open.

Hope this helps.

Kenmore elite fridge crisper drawer freezing stuff

If you have a side by side model you need to look at the refrigerator compartment wall on the left of the bottom drawer and move the slide control to the warmer/fruit/vegitable setting instead of the meat setting.
I hope this helped. Please rate my help or ask for more help please. supertechks
