If I read the title it say PROBLEM WITH THE MICROWAVE, on the other hand when I Google the Rival 4.5L it is a deep fryer?!?!?, now if you'r talking about a Microwave oven there is NO heating element, what produces the heat is called a MAGNETRON... it can be replaced but it's cheaper to buy a new oven. Now if you'r talking about a deep fryer, you are correct there is an element inside the unit but as for it's replacement you need to check if it is servicable, some models are riveted meaning you can not disasemble it without braking the rivets... if you finally get it appart check the element for a part number if it has one than it's just a matter of calling a near by applayance store and order it (it would be even better to show the element to the clirk) than again the element could cost as mutch as a new fryer...
That sounds like either a faulty thermal trip, or a faulty overheating fryer. Is it clean around the element because if not the heat will build up, much like the fur on a kettle and cause the element to overheat. Hope this helps.
