These symptoms are known as the yellow light of death. Your best bet at this point is to send it in for repair. Sony charges $150 for out of warranty repair as do most repair shops. Good luck...

When the green light is on then GO, if the yellow is on SLOW DOWN, and if it is red STOP.

1)Turn off your playstation. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work send to sony to get fixed

yellow ring of death. there is no repairing it. you have to get a new system.

I think that u just didn't dust it off enough and the fans could no circulate the hot air well enough and the system ended up damaging its self.

have you ever had the playstation taken apart? Maybe you need to replace the Thermal past on the processors. It is due to an overheating problem. I have one right now that does that.

The most likley cause of this problem is that your PS3 has burned out. In this case you might need to send it away to Sony does the little green light turn yellow before it turns off ?

Hi my name is Juan and unfortunately your ps3 is dead what happen is that for some reason it got so hot and the processor stop working when you turn on the ps3 it does a self test and if something is not working right it turns off immediately with a green yellow red light so don't spend your money in another power supply I can guaranty to you is not the power supply I do sell and fix playstations and this is why I know this this problem is common on the 60Gb and 80Gb also in 40Gb but not like on the 60and 80Gb

Try reseating the hard drive. Take it out of the PS3 and then put it back in and then turn it on and see if the problem goes away.
