Closed Caption keeps coming back on

My elderly parents have had problems with their TV since it was moved a few months ago. The closed caption keeps displaying on the screen. We've turned it off, and it stays off for several minutes, and then it's starts displaying again. I have no idea how to stop it for good. the Model is 27MS3404R.

I have done this many times. It just keeps coming back.

  • keeshond Feb 17, 2008

Yes, I've done this, as I mentioned in problem discription, but it keeps coming back after a few minutes.

  • keeshond Feb 17, 2008

I have saved the settings, but it still comes back on. Please understand that I am doing everything listed in the manual, and it should work, but it does not.

  • keeshond Feb 17, 2008

The closed caption on my parents' magnavox TV keeps coming on even after I have turned it off and saved the change exactly as the manual states. It works for a few minutes, and then the closed caption comes back on. The TV was fine for years, and it was recently moved and then this started happening.

Methinks you have a loose connection or board in the chassis, from the move. DO NOT open that back, until the power has been off for quite some time(30 min) due to shock potential. This is really for a qualified service professional.

CC has two components. Firmware(as indicated above) and a cc conversion board. I suspect that is the cause of this issue, since it's restarting on it's own.

Have a toshiba 50" Plasma TV purchased 11/06.

I do not think there is an issue with the TV. I do not think that the station themselves broadcast the Closed Captioning.

Cannot turn off Closed Caption

Here's the copy on CC from my manual LC-32SB23U.

1. Press CC.
This will present the Closed Caption information display.
2. Press CC while the Closed Caption information is
still on the screen.
Press repeatedly until you select the desired closed
caption service.

INFO BOX ON THE SCREEN,
Air ANALOG
Audio : MONO
CC : 1/2 CC1 ------ Closed Caption information
Ratings : NONE

Example:
If a program has three services (Digital CC(ENG), CC1
and Text1), the closed caption display will toggle in this
sequence:
1/3 ENG -- 2/3 CC1 --- 3/3 Text1 -- Off
The CC button keeps a record of the last service
selected in its memory.
If the last closed caption mode (e.g. 1/3ENG) you
selected is not available for the next program, or on
another channel, the closed caption service that is
available is automatically selected, and this service
appears in parentheses, e.g. “1/3(CC1)”.
Closed Caption services that appear in parentheses will
not be stored in the CC button's memory as your last
selected service. Only services that you have selected
with the CC button are stored.

If this doesn't work, the TV may need a software upgrade.
I can get you a copy of my manual LC-32SB23U for you. But, are you sure there is and "A" in the middle of your model number?

Closed caption

Are you talking computer or TV?
Closed caption on a TV is when the volume is muted and it prints the speech in a box on the screen. You have to turn it on in the menu.

Big black box on screen

It has something to do with the closed captioning. He must have hit the closed caption button on your remote. You need to either turn the closed caption off or make another selection under closed captioning like cc1 cc2. Just keep making selections until the box goes away.

Closed caption activiting on everytime tv is turned on

If you have the Suddenlink remote and the DVR box you can turn captions on or off by accessing a technical menu. To do this, press POWER and Menu buttons together (menu 2 times) to bring up a special menu. Select Closed Captions. On the popup menu select closed captions and using Select button change to OFF or ON as you wish. The trick is to get the menu to come up. Timing of pressing the two buttons is frustrating and it may take a few times befotre you get the special menu.

Blach block out

if your big black square starts about the middle of the tv & goes down close to the bottom, you have closed caption text turned on. normal closed caption is small, but test caption, is just a big black box with no writing in it. go into your menu & shut it off, it could even be a button on your remote called, "caption", or "cc". good luck.
